Kagome was jerked awake when something hard poked her side. She had been sleeping on the ground and rolled over a pine cone.
"Ach!" She hissed and rolled on her back. It was dark. Where was she? Everything around her smelled mossy and mulchy. She squinted her eyes and could make out the silhouette of a forest around her.
In her half-asleep stupor, she looked around for Sango, Miroku, Shippo and Inuyasha. Had they just been on a Shikon hunt? The fire was out.
"Inuyasha?" She called out.
A blinding beam of gold hit her eye and she had to shield her vision with her hand. The darkness and black pillars of trees were cut by the first rays of daylight that all of a sudden reached out from beneath the horizon.
The canvas of the sky began to bleed with hues of orange and red, pushing the deep blue and purple aside.
The moist ground began to absorb the heat coming from the light and in the still morning air all of the forest was shrouded in mist.
Kagome struggled her stiffened body up from the ground and rubbed her weary eyes.
A large figure diverged from the masts of trees and approached Kagome from within the forest.
Kagome searched around her with her gaze, still disoriented, and dug her fingers into the damp soil.
"I thought you might do with breakfast." The figure commented with amusement in his voice and something large thumped on the ground. A carcass of a wild boar. Fresh blood steamed off its still warm body.
Kagome blinked her eyes and looked at the man who had spoken. She could now distinguish his face. A fanged grin and chiseled strong jaw. Face that was framed by a wild mass of white mane. Amber eyes that seemed to be perpetually laughing.
He was a spitting image of Inuyasha. All down to that unmistakable fire-rat suikan of his. The bold, "come at me" red shade of it. They could have been twins - aside from some details like appearing somewhat older and two purple stripes ran across his cheekbones.
"Inuyasha." She breathed.
"Yeah." He nonchalantly replied while turning his attention to his spoils. "You don't mind fetching some dry wood now while I'll slice and dice this fella for some skewers?" He happily hummed while rolling his sleeves up.
Kagome could still only stare at this strange apparition.
Soul of Kikyou. Soul of Inuyasha. Dancing in this inescapable doomed waltz of reincarnation.
"I-I…" There was so many things she wanted to ask and discuss, especially in the light of everything that had been brought to her attention by Kimiko. But that time would come later, her stomach announced with a large gurgle.
After tossing another gnawed out piece of bone to the woods for other critters to use as scraps, Inuyasha contently wiped his chin clean of grease and belched happily.
Kagome held her own skewer in her hands and studied the unappetizing display of gluttony next to her. She scrunched her nose.
"Are napkins still not invented in your time?" She asked and carefully nibbled her own food. No need to become a boorish slob – not even after having practically being starved for weeks.
Her demon companion picked at a strip of tendon that was stuck between his teeth.
"Hey, we are in the middle of the woods. In a dangerous territory swarming with enemies. There's not much need for etiquette out here."
"Well yeah, but…" Kagome felt like arguing just for the sake of arguing. Call it old habits.
"Your suikan is going to star to stink if you rub every discharge of carcasses on it."
Inuyasha chuckled and his expression turned more dark.
"Let's not compare smells, shall we. You reek pretty bad." He huffed and began to tear another rib out of the skewing pig over the campfire. "You know, this is not here merely for the good looks." He said and pointed at his nose.
"EXCUSE ME?!" Kagome shrieked and jumped up. "I didn't exactly get the spa treatment over at your demon realm. So, I'm so very sorry if the odeur of my sweat offends you!"
Inuyasha gave up on his seconds on the boar and also stood up. Looking at Kagome with a stern, unflinching stare he boldly claimed,
"Sweat doesn't bother me, but the persisting stench of my brother's junk kinda does."
By the last words that came out of Inuyasha's mouth, Kagome wished that Kimiko would have shut her in a dungeon and left her to shrivel away in her misery. Toss the key away. Never to have been heard from again.
She had wanted to bring up his brother but NOT like this.
A/N: Yuuup. It's short. I'm sorry. This just felt like a too perfect cliffhanger moment to pass up on. Also, I want to finally hurdle out my story updates.
But there's a bonus for you at the end:
Original A/N: Lol! I just reviewed my original storyboard for this fanfic and it was supposed to end at chapter 13. :'D And here we are! But that was before I had the idea to include Inuyasha's past incarnation.
For those interested, here's some notes before I drastically changed the story along the way:
I'll rather include these in the A/N than make a separate chapter. And yes, this is how I draft a story.
Step 1 is getting the idea. "What if Kagome ended up further in the past through the well?"
Step 2, I make a very, very, crude summary of the whole story. At least the beginning, middle and end.
Step 3, which you see below, summaries for each chapters
Kagome is in Sengoku Jidai, 1557, she doesn't realize it's her last day with Inuyasha. She goes through the well as usual. Goes home. When she returns through the well, instead, she ends up 1143 BC in the past. In the Joomon period. She climbs up the well and ponders why the surroundings look a bit odd. She shrugs it off and goes to look for Inuyasha. Instead she bumps into none other than Inu no Taisho, Toga. (CHAPTER 1 END)
First she thinks it's Sesshoumaru, but then she notices that he doesn't have the crescent moon on his forehead. Toga is about to kill Kagome, but he is confused when Kagome shows no fear or hostility towards him. Kagome sees traits of Inuyasha in him. Kagome asks if he knows Inuyasha and tries to figure out what has happened. Toga is confused by her outfit and appearance. She goes to Kaede's village as Toga allows her to, but he accompanies her. Kagome discovers that there's nothing there. She returns to well and finds nothing. The well has vanished. (CHAPTER 2 END)
They run into Cat demons and Toga kills them with Sounga. Kagome realizes that Toga is Inuyasha's father. A pack of dog demons scout the area and Toga takes Kagome to their territory as his human slave. Otherwise the other demons would kill her. Toga supplies her with appropriate clothing instead of her school uniform. Slight romantic tension. (CHAPTER 3 END)
Kagome goes out to investigate. (Toga left her backpack in the forest, she goes out to find it.) Toga accompanies her out of curiosity and boredom. (CHAPTER 4 END)
Kagome goes to a village near the dog demon territory and asks for information about the period. She gathers that she has travelled over 3000 years into the past. She ponders if her latest encounter with Inuyasha was to be their last. Toga has left waiting in the woods when the shocked Kagome in state of disbelief returns, Toga advices them to leave since he can feel the presence of cat demons. They return to the dog demon clan and Kagome meets Kimiko, a beautiful dog demon girl about the age of 12. She has a crescent moon marking on her forehead and Kagome realizes she's the mother of Sesshoumaru.
Kagome goes into heat. Toga tries to save her from being "gang raped" by offering his cum to her. He flat out refuses to mate a human, but tells Kagome to apply his semen on her skin. Toga also learns that humans go into heat every month.(CHAPTER 5 END)
Kimiko is proud and mischievous. She shows great displease at Kagome's presence. Toga is stern, but with hot temper. He gets easily agitated and doesn't like Kimiko's constant teasing. Filler chapter with comedic situations and Kagome/Toga bickering. Romantic tension intensifies. Both are becoming attracted to each other and Kagome wonders if this is how Inuyasha has felt when she came into his life after Kikyo. Toga and Kagome almost end up kissing, but Kagome can't change the course of history. Toga gives her a bracelet made out of fire rat demon bones. The bracelet is ugly as hell, but Kagome cherishes the gesture. (CHAPTER 6 END)
Kagome can't stand still and she goes out to find more information on how to return to her own time. She goes to the village only to find that it is being attacked by cat demons. Kagome goes to Toga for aid, but he refuses to help lowly humans. Kagome is furious and gives him a heartfelt speech about humans, love and equality of life. She takes a bow and arrows and goes alone to the rescue. As she approaches the village, Toga comes and asks "So, what is your plan?" (CHAPTER 7 END)
Toga and Kagome fight, side by side. They manage to drive the cat clan away. Toga is truly impressed by her fighting skills and bravery. Also the villagers team up and help each other. Toga sees the better side of humans. Kagome looks over at Toga victoriously when she is gravely wounded by an arrow that pierces her shoulder. (CHAPTER 8 END)
Toga takes her back to his clan and spends sleepless nights beside her. She gets blood poisoning from her infected wound and has a high fever. She has feverish dreams of Inuyasha and she constantly keeps calling out his name. Toga understands that he must be her lover. He feels hurt and tries to deny the reason for his feeling. He goes beside Kagome and Kagome opens her eyes. He is unsure if she's still feverish and thinks that he is Inuyasha, but can't help himself and kisses her passionately. (CHAPTER 9 END)
Kagome is still recovering, but she takes a stroll into the forest of Inuyasha. She feels the presence of Goshinboku and realizes what connects the times is not the well, but the tree. She finds a small sprout and feels the magic energy. She focuses and hopes to achieve connection to the stream of time. She calls out to Inuyasha. Leaves rustle behind her and she finds Toga standing behind her. "This man you keep calling out for. Inuyasha. Who is he?"
Kagome is unsure of what to tell him. She has feelings for Toga, but she understands that those feelings can never come to fruition. Toga yells at her to tell him. Kagome yields and tells him that she comes from the future. In the future she met Toga's younger son, Inuyasha. Toga's rage is subdued and he is amazed to hear he has a son. She refuses to tell him more, because she doesn't want to alter history. What will happen has already happened and she will refuse to stand in the way. She'll only agree to tell him that his son will be a great man with a good heart. Kagome starts walking away, but Toga runs up to her and closes her into his embrace from behind. Kagome allows his warmth to consume her and lingers in his arms for a moment. (CHAPTER 10 END)
SMUTFEST chapter. Kagome has another heat. Toga goes crazy. He realizes that by now he's utterly in love. He wants to mate her. Kagome is torn between love and lust. (Chapter 11)
I won't spoil chapters 12 and 13 which I had initially planned since they are still being written almost "as is" from my very initial draft. They will probably be used as chapters 20 and 21. (Chapter 21 being an epilogue chapter)
