He held the fragile organ in his hands. His most treasured possession. The thing he was given and vowed to protect. His heart. No. Not his, his lover's. Such a delicate thing it was, it was all ready starting to crack. He knew what he had to do, and he hated himself for it. Oh god how he hated himself. He hated himself as he stood before the blond and removed his wedding band.

'Click'

The sound the tiny golden ring made as it was placed on the cool oak bedside table.

"What are you doing?"

That voice, that sweet voice that sang to him the night before. That voice brought him so much joy and so much pain. That voice... That voice sounded so scared. That voice nearly broke him.

"I'm saying its over."

The heart he held in his quivering hands started to bled.

'Plip...Plip'

The sound the blood made as it oozed from the heart and between his fingers to land on the floor below. It took everything out of him just to keep a poker face as he said those next few words.

"You were right. I can do better than you."

He felt the heart begin to crumble in his numb hands, but he had to go on.

"I'm sending someone to help you move tomorrow..."

He couldn't just drop it this time, no, this time he had to do something worse. He rose the bleeding organ high above his head and finished with as much venom as he possible could.

"I just can't stand looking at you right now."

'Tinkle plink tink'

The sound the heart made as it was thrown to the ground.

'Crunch Crunch'

The sound of his foot grinding the reminants of the organ into dust. It hurt him, but it had to be done. The other must never be able to forgive him; for if he did, he would never be able to protect him. He couldn't bear to see his only real love in the hospital again. Those machines. Those machines that took over his body and kept him grounded to the land of the living. Those machines scared him. He refused to see his love hooked up to those machines again.

"I'm going now, don't wait up,"

A stunned silence is all that greeted him. He turned on his heel, not wanting to see the shocked tears that would be falling down his lover's face. Oh God how he wanted to throw himself at the others feet and beg for forgiveness, to say it was all a cruel joke, and plant feather light kisses all over his body, to kiss away those beautiful, heart wrenching tears. But instead he walked away, and closed the door behind him.

'Crash tinkle tinkle'

The sound his heart made as it it fell out of his chest and shattered on the floor.

'Crackle Crackle Crack'

The sound his heart made when he heard the quiet sobs from behind the closed bedroom door.

"God damn it.."

The sound he made as he wiped the tears that fell from his eyes and left, not bothering to pick up the shattered remains of his heart. What on earth would he need it for now anyway?
