Eleven year old Yugi Motou walked down the aisle of the train nervously dragging his rolling suitcase behind him as he walked peering into the compartments he passed looking for an open seat. He had been invited to a prestigious school of magic that summer and his grandfather had insisted that he accept. Not that he had protested. Normal school didn't seem to offer him anything beyond good grades and the sympathy of his teachers. He was scared though. At least back at Domino he knew everyone in his class. Here he was an entire continent away from his grandfather and he felt more alone than ever before.
He peered into another compartment and frowned thoughtfully inside the compartment there was only one person a kid his age with light brown hair and ice blue eyes, dressed in jeans a long sleeved yellow shirt and a blue vest just a few shades darker then his eyes the boy was bent over a thick book presumably reading.
Eleven year old Seto Kaiba looked up from his workbook when he heard the door to his compartment opening in the doorway stood a boy shorter than him by almost a foot with amethyst eyes almost as big as his head and tricolor hair almost as big as he was sticking up in a star point, the boy wore a long sleeved black turtle neck and a Domino Elementary school jacket with matching blue pants. He boy smiled nervously as if unsure what to say. But then he spoke.
"Gomen I didn't mean to interrupt your reading but all the other compartments are full and I was hoping I could sit with you?" The boy asked surprisingly in Japanese, he looked down at the last four words.
Seto considered the request. 'He's Japanese lives in Domino and is going to Hogwarts. Here I am alone and have no allies.' He thought watching the other boy fidget nervously. 'While this boy is not a powerful ally I get the feeling he will be useful.' He thought nodding at the boy. Who quickly moved across the compartment and sat in the window seat across from him.
"I'm Yugi Motou." The boy introduced himself in English.
"Seto Kaiba." Seto replied returning to his book and then turning the page. The train ride continued on without them speaking to each other again hours later the train started to slow. Seto pulled the black Hogwarts robes on over his Cloths as Yugi scurried from the room with his things and did not return. Snapping his work book closed Seto put it in his duffel bag and removed his deck of Duel Monsters cards from it before leaving the compartment melding into the crowd of students flowing from the train.
Eleven year old Ryou Bakura slipped out of the crowd easily and headed towards the intimidating man shouting for first years to follow him. The Millennium Ring held around his neck by a sturdy rope felt heavy against his chest as he followed the crowd of excited children his age joking and laughing as they approached the boats. Ryou kept his head low and tired to be as unnoticeable as possible remarkably even though he had pure white hair he managed to remain unseen when he wished too. Which was most of the time as if he was not noticed he would not make friends and if he didn't let anyone get close to him then the Spirit of the ring whom had recently claimed his last name for his own couldn't turn them into figurines when he tried to play his favorite game Monster World with them.
The Spirit called it Rent and took great pleasure in tormenting him. Under his Hogwarts robes he wore a Light blue long sleeved shirt going just past his knuckles and light blue pants to match. He slid into the only open boat that held two other boys besides him a shorter boy with Tricolor hair and a boy with short brown hair and icy blue eyes. When he looked at them he heard the Spirit growl angrily inside his mind. He found out their names were Seto Kaiba and Yugi Motou. They hardly spoke to each other the entire boat ride.
Once the boats docked the group of nervous first years was lead into the entrance hall of the school and left there until the sorting was to begin.
Yugi walked over to Ryou after listening in on some of the other kid's conversations. "They're not actually going make us fight a troll are they?" Yugi asked fearfully.
"I hope not. ." Ryou whimpered in fear at the very Idea. He heard the Spirit scoff in the back of his mind. He felt the spirit look through his eyes and glare at the other boy Ryou had no idea why the Spirit seemed to dislike this boy so much but he thought it best not to ask. Interaction with the spirit was never pleasant. He saw the other boy from the boat Seto speaking with a blond boy he did not seem to be enjoying himself but he appeared to be saying all the right things because the kid didn't seem to notice. Yugi walked away and started a conversation with a black haired bespectacled boy.
Minutes later the group was lead into the hall at the front of the hall there in front of the head table was a stool with a ragged black hat on it. Professor McGonagall explained the sorting and began to call out students names "Abbott Hannah" was first she ran up to the stool and the hat was placed on her head. There was a moment's pause before the hat opened up its 'mouth' and shouted out. "HUFFLEPUFF!" the table to the far right of the hall burst into applause and Hannah ran over to that table once she was seated and the applause had died down the next name was called. "Bakura Ryou."
Ryou lowered his head as he walked towards the hat at a normal pace but it seemed like forever the Millennium ring felt unusually heavy against his chest as if warning him not to continue. Before he knew it he was sitting on the stool the hat was placed on his head blocking his vision of the hall he stiffened eyes widening behind the hat as he felt the entire halls eyes on him at the same time as he was unexpectedly dragged into his soul room as the hat entered.
Ryou looked around the familiar room before noticing a man standing in the center the man had long Elvin ears shoulder length raged hair and Black eyes and Ratty black robes.
The sorting hat looked around the boy's soul room the pure white walls with ceiling colored with as if a canopy of trees were above them dropping leaves to the cream colored floor as artificial sunlight lit up the room, he saw the memory library locked and bolted with a chain there was a soft wooden four poster bed in the corner with pure white sheets and creme colored hangings a deck of tarot cards sat on top of a desk in the corner lining the walls were posters of monsters above the bed there was a poster of a Woman with wings holding a heart one side represented an angel or good while the other half represented a fallen angel or evil. There was a toy chest in the corner also locked tight with a large steel padlock there was a chair in the corner leaning against a door with chains across it a pad lock interlocking them and the regular lock on the door was turned with a deadbolt running along it. He raised an eyebrow at that turning to the blue clad boy with a questioning look.
"Why exactly is every valuable part of your mind under lock and key?" The hat asked only to be shushed hurriedly by the boy. But it was too late the damage was done. There was a terrifying pounding on the locked door followed by muffle shouts. Ryou whimpered in fear.
"He's heard us. Hurry! Do whatever you must but get out of here before he picks the locks!" Ryou pleaded the locks on the bookshelf opened. Ryou's eyes widened. "You need to look through my memories?" The Hat nodded and headed towards the small bookshelf and choosing a book at random searching through his memories the Hat determined Hufflepuff to be the perfect house for the child he was about to make his leave when the door burst open the deadbolt, chair and chains flying across the room. Ryou whimpered fearfully taking multiple steps away from the door.
There in the doorway of the previously locked room was a boy three feet taller than Ryou with white hair sticking out at odd angles and chocolate brown eyes tinted with blood red the figure growled he was not happy he was wearing the same thing as Ryou yet the outfit was not too big on him as it was on Ryou the collar of the blue over shirt was folded down and the Collar of the white button up shirt underneath was folded over it the blue shirt was hanging open like a jacket and the button up shirt was open enough to show a muscular chest.
The same gold trinket that rested around Ryou's neck rested around the neck of this newcomer who was instantly across the room holding Ryou off the ground his collar. "Hello Bakura." Ryou whispered barely audible as his wide eyes stared fearfully into the Spirit's narrowed angry ones.
"Hello Yandoshi, and who is this intruder into our mind?" The other boy known as Bakura angrily demanded shaking smaller boy threateningly.
"H-he's the sorting hat he's here to sort me into my house at Hogwarts." Ryou replied fearfully the spirit cast him aside as soon as he finished speaking he cried out in pain as he collided with the far wall of the soul room.
"I was just about to leave." The hat said raising an eyebrow at the spirits treatment of its host when the book he held opened showing new memories to the hat; memories of the future he had almost forgotten too look into those. Images of Ryou's future paths and trails his possible choices to be made were briefly shown sealing the Hat's decision. "Farewell Mr. Bakura I leave you too your destiny in GYFFINDOR!" The hat called the last word out to the entire hall. As soon as the hat was removed from his head Ryou took off like a shot to the applauding house table shaking fearfully as Bakura screamed at him for locking him away. Yes Ryou was in a lot of trouble and was not looking forward to meeting the spirit face to face again.
More names were called Susan Bones also joined Hufflepuff while Terry Boot Joined Ravenclaw Mandy Brocklehurst went to Ravenclaw as well. Lavender Brown was sorted into Gryffindor and Millicent Bulstrode became the first Slytherin and Justin Flinch-Fletchley became yet another Hufflepuff. Then Hermione Granger was called she sprinted eagerly up to the stool and jammed the hat onto her head.
The Hat looked around the girl's soul room the room was a circular with cozy armchairs around roaring fire lighting up the room with its welcoming flames, lining the walls and most of the floors were book shelves filled with seemingly endless rows of books stacks of books lay neatly on every available space. Posters of Monsters lined the walls without shelves plush toys of the same monsters sat on a shelf above a dark brown canopy bed on a loft above the books with teal hangings and light green sheets near the edge of the loft was a telescope pointed at the ceiling, on a pedestal in the middle of the library was a deck of cards.
There was no ceiling in the room but an endless space with stars and planets shining brightly above, there was no door either the walls were colored the same as the ceiling the floor was colored a soft scarlet.
The Library symbolized intelligence and order the bright burning fire meant a passionate heart and these things together pointed towards Ravenclaw. But the infinite space in the room left more to gather a thirst for knowledge a need to prove oneself this pointed towards Slytherin while as he pulled a book in perfect condition from one of the shelves images, memories and future pathways flashed in his mind's eye, and with that he made his decision, the decision that would make the best outcome for the future. "You have an interesting future Ms. Granger. I feel that many good things are in store for you in GRYFFINDOR!" The hat shouted the last word to the hall as it was removed from Hermione's head she practically Teleported too the Gryffindor table.
The next name to be called sent excited whispers across the hall from the muggle born students. "Kaiba Seto." Said student walked up to the stool a professional air about him his ice blue eyes intimidating even some of the seventh years, A tall red haired Gryffindor hissed something about him not being in Uniform as the black fabric of the sorting hat covered his eyes.
The Hat looked around as he dropped into the child's mind. The Room was small the walls were white and the carpet was dark blue there was a small metal bed in the corner with blue sheets and a small white plush dragon with blue eyes posters of the same monster lined the walls. On a small shelf were pictures that held precious memories and pushed up against the wall was a sleek metal desk with a comfy black office chair on the desk was a computer and a neat stack of text books. Littered across the floor were chess pieces, cards and yet more books much too advanced for someone his age. The florescent lights hanging above gave off a cold and uninviting feeling and the room no matter how cluttered it appeared gave off a strangely empty feeling. As he approached the computer screen lit up with a KC Logo before giving away to a desktop as soon as the hat's hand made contact with the muggle object memories and possible choices flooded his vision. T
here were many paths this boy could take and many choices he would make but which house would lead him to the right one? Gryffindor was out of the question despite the boy's courage and brash decisions his place was not in Gryffindor house. Hufflepuff was also out of the question as this boy met not even one of the requirements for the Badger's house. The Raven's nest seemed a fitting place for the young student as he certainly fit all the requirements the thirst for knowledge and ability to soak it up like a never ending sponge but that was outweighed by the boy's drive for power the need to prove himself, there was only one house that would lead him to greatness. "You have an interesting future Seto Kaiba. Make the right choices and you shall go far in SLYTHERIN!" The hat said the last word aloud as it was taken from Seto's head.
There was a stunned silence from the hall the teachers clapped in congratulations and there were dull claps scattered around the hall as Seto made his way to an empty spot as far from his new housemates as possible. He smirked knowing exactly why the entire student body was so shocked about his placement. It had been a long time sense a Muggle born was sorted into Slytherin. He sat down at his house table as his previously all black robes magically changed to include a green stripe along the hood and the Serpent crest of Slytherin house on the side.
The next student to be sorted was Neville Longbottom whom after a long wait was sorted into Gryffindor the boy ran to the Gryffindor table with the hat still on his head and ended up jogging back and handing it to the student whose name Seto did not hear over the laughter of the other students around him. Malfoy swaggered forward when his name was called the hat barley touched his head before recoiling and shouting the house the blond was too be sorted in. Unsurprisingly the daddy's boy was placed in Slytherin.
'But he'll be powerful when he leaves school. Once his father is out of the picture he'll be in control of all his families' resources. I cannot forget that.' Seto ordered himself as the blond sat across from him in between his two cronies Crabbe and Goyle smirking smugly clearly pleased with his placement in the supposedly evil house. There weren't many people left to be sorted now it proceeded the same as before until the hall burst into whispers when the name 'Potter Harry' was called. Personally Seto didn't see anything interesting about the skinny boy that took almost as long to sort as the Bakura kid had and Potter also joined Gryffindor house. After a few words from the senile headmaster the feast began.
