Mesmerizing Angel
The vision of him was still there, lingering beyond the blackness that enveloped me. His long blonde hair was pulled back into a ponytail; it looked like it hadn't been brushed in days. His hollow dark eyes looked at me with such disgust that it made my heart feel like stone. For years I had loved him, only to become a victim of the monster he had transformed into.
The physical pain was easier than the mental pain. Physical scars healed. The mental scars stayed with me always.
The accusations had come from nowhere and were so unexpected that I barely had time to defend myself, before his slurred words turned to fists of fury. I took the punches, just as I had taken his words; silently. I prayed for it to end, seconds before the world became black.
Feeling left me. I had no voice, no way to fight back. No way to find the light I desperately wanted.
That was when I felt it; the rope. My legs were bound, as were my arms. I could feel the blood leave my body and I knew then that life had left me.
I cried silently. My beaten body begged for the blackness to fade away.
As if in answer to my prayers, I could feel a warm glow on the crown of my head and I looked above me until the bright white hurt my eyes. I closed them and let the tears flow freely.
"It's okay, don't fret. I will take care of those for you."
I opened my eyes to see a kind set of green orbs looking back at me. They were filled with intense empathy, something I hadn't encountered in so long. I took a sharp intake of breath as his warm hand touched the bruised skin of my bound ankles and wrists. I felt no pain, only a warm buzz as he gently unwound my limbs, holding my gaze all the while.
"There you go." He smiled at me and I found myself smiling in return.
"Edward?" I asked, agape. Sure that I was seeing my high school sweetheart.
"It's me, Bella," he confirmed.
It was then that I saw them. An intricate set of wings spanned out from behind him. His smile changed to one of understanding.
"Yours are only small for now. They will grow, though. You'll see," his sweet voice ensured me.
I looked at him in confusion. My still heart lurched when he reached past me and I exhaled when I felt his gentle touch.
"Yours are the prettiest I've ever seen," he murmured.
I looked behind me and gasped at what I saw. He laughed lightly and moved his hand away from the small wing that had fluttered beneath it. I gazed at him, my mouth agape and he smiled at me reassuringly.
"You're a real angel now. Are you ready to go?" He held a hand out to me and I took it without trepidation.
"I think so. Where are we going?" I asked curiously.
"Home," he stated simply and began leading me, linking his fingers through mine.
"Where is home?"
He stopped and turned to me. "Where do you want it to be?"
"Where ever you are," I answered on instinct.
His hand cupped my cheek and I leaned into his touch. "I'm right here, I'm not going anywhere."
I looked up at him, searching for reassurance. I found it in his kind eyes. I felt it in his gentle touch and I heard it in his whispered words.
"I promise."
His bronze hair was surrounded by light, giving the effect of a halo as his wings came around and cocooned me. I wrapped my arms around his torso and fell into him. I sighed as he gently kissed the top of my head.
"Then I am already home."
I hope you enjoyed it. This was written on a whim after seeing a picture that inspired me, of an angel tied up. Quite haunting. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for reading.
