Notes: I sort of had this fantastic idea the other morning when I randomly woke up at the same time the sun did. Being up early means I spend a lot of time thinking, and this is the product of that. Well that and Hallow telling me to, "DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!"
The crisp autumn air had tinted her cheeks pink, and the light breeze had ruffled her hair. The hard bench under her doing little to shield her from the chill of the New York night. Her companion was just as quiet as she was, staring out across the park in front of them.
After several minutes of silence she turned to face him. She'd had enough of his fidgety quiet.
"Yes."
"Huh?" His head whipped around to hers.
"You were not asking, very loudly," she smirked.
"I was?"
"You were," she whispered.
"And yes?"
"Yes."
"Awesome!" He leaned back on the bench and spread his arms along the back of it.
She elbowed his side and settled back next to him. "So..."
"So?"
She rolled her eyes and held her hand out. "Give it up."
He grinned and reached into his pocket. "You sure?"
She gave him a pointed look.
"Right, you're sure." He pulled his hand back out and slid the ring onto her finger.
She leaned in and kissed him sweetly. "I love you."
"I love you too," he murmured as he laced their fingers together.
After another few minutes of quiet she stood up and tugged on his hand. "Come on, Rick. I'm cold."
He stood and put his arm over her shoulders. "How are we gonna tell Lanie?"
"I already thought of that." She gave him an evil grin and continued, "Give me your phone."
Castle quirked an eyebrow at her and pulled his phone out. "Just what do you have you up your sleeve?"
Kate grinned and pulled up a blank text. She quickly tapped out Lanie's number, and clicked the camera button. She focused the camera on her left hand, took the photo, and sent it off to her best friend.
"You are devious."
"You love it," she replied silencing his phone and handing it back. She did the same to her own and looped her arm through his. "Let's go see my dad."
