On the First Page of Our Story

Sally could hear the screams emanating from downstairs. She could hear the tearful strain in Josh's voice and the sorrowful tenseness of Aidan's. This is what it was like every night for the past two months. The months before had been so happy and full of love. Yet ever since Aidan started going on in his blood lustful ways, the relationship had been strained. They were fighting instead of kissing. Yelling instead of talking lovingly. Throwing punches instead of cuddling. Sally couldn't bear it. So most nights, she just thought of somewhere else she'd like to be. And she stayed there until morning.

"I'm tired of the lies!" Josh had tears streaming down his face, his voice hoarse and straining with each word he said. "You're never around anymore! You're always siding with Bishop! You're blood lusting every damn day, and you've fallen so hard that I can't even pick you up anymore!"

Aidan screamed back at him. "You're being irrational!"

Josh blinked. "I'M being irrational?"

"Yes! I'm not doing anything wrong! I'm a vampire, what the hell did you expect me to do!"

"Maybe have some self control like you used to!" Josh cried and shoved Aidan hard, making him stumble back against the wall.

Retaliating out of anger and sadness, Aidan shoved the werewolf back and stormed up the stairs. Josh followed him instantly. "I'm not done talking to you!" He grabbed Aidan's arm and the vampire whirled around, giving Josh a hard slap on the cheek.

Josh blinked in pure shock and looked at his boyfriend with big, round, tearful eyes. Aidan was known to be violent, but he'd never in all the times they'd been together hit Josh. Not once. Maybe pushed him and shoved him a little bit, but never had he hit the younger man. Josh was shocked to tears and Aidan instantly regretted what he did.

"Josh, I—I'm sorry I-"

Stepping back away from Aidan, Josh started to go back down the stairs. Aidan gently grabbed his hand and Josh jerked back. "Please I'm sorry let me just-"

"No!" Josh shoved the vampire away from him.

Grasping his arms gently, Aidan made his boyfriend stay. "Just look at me! I'm sorry! Let me just talk to you for minute."

Josh shook his head and writhed. Aidan, determined to talk this out with Josh pushed him back against the wall. Josh mis-stepped and tripped over his own two feet. Aidan watched in what seemed like slow motion as Josh took a nasty tumble down the stairs, landing exactly where Sally had. The vampire heard a ear-splitting crack! , knowing the damage just done.

"Josh!"

It seemed like forever for Aidan as he ran down the steps to his boyfriend, now laying in a puddle of his own blood, streaming from the back of his head. He knelt down beside him and instantly burst out into tears. "No, no, no, no! Josh! Josh wake up! Please I'm sorry! Josh!" Aidan took the werewolf's hand and tried effortlessly to wake him up. But the consequences were already done. Aidan knew what had happened.

Tears streaming down his face, Aidan cried into his dead boyfriend's chest.

End
