Thirtieth Time's The Charm
Summary: Thirty times Reid stayed the night. Set vaguely after Revelations.
The first time it happened, Morgan pulled his gun on the intruder as Clooney went nuts in the kitchen. When he saw it was Reid, he didn't say anything as he handed him a pillow and a blanket, gesturing to the couch. He woke to find the other side of his bed beside him still warm and his lock was broken.
The second time it happened, Clooney only whined, so Morgan stayed where he was. The bed beside him depressed and he pretended to be asleep. Reid was gone before he woke up again and on the counter there was a small lump of notes to pay for the first lock replacement, and the now-necessary second one.
The third time it happened, Clooney was happy to see Reid and it took him ten minutes to get to the bedroom. When Morgan got to the kitchen there was another lump of cash, and the bowl of milkless-cereal he'd left out had been devoured, the bowl cleaned and put away, the coffee made and drunk. It was then that Morgan made a decision, and if questioned about it, he would have replied that he simply couldn't stand locksmiths. And this way, he could replace his lock with one that worked without the fear that Reid would no longer be able to get in. And if you questioned him on that, he would claim he was merely worried about his colleague.
Reid was sipping on his second cup of coffee when Morgan hurried into the bullpen.
"You're late." Hotch's expression was as deadpan as usual, and Morgan looked up at him.
"My apartment got broken into."
Reid lowered his head and blushed.
About ten minutes later, Morgan went to fetch some coffee and took Reid's cup with him as he went. He returned and placed it carefully on the desk in front of his colleague, waiting until Reid met his gaze.
"I'll eat with you next time."
Reid blinked in surprise as Morgan walked away to his own desk. When Reid reached for the coffee, he found that Morgan had carefully placed a small, golden key beneath it. Reid looked at it for a long minute before relenting and attaching it to his own key chain.
The fourth time, Morgan woke up first. He made scrambled eggs, Clooney sat beside Reid as he ate, and they went to work together. No one noticed, or if they did, they didn't mention anything.
The seventh time, Morgan and Reid awoke to find themselves spooning around each other. Reid stayed away for almost a week.
The eighth time, Morgan turned round in the bed and hugged Reid to him. The next day, Emily noted that Morgan was in a better mood than he'd been all week.
The tenth time, Reid took a change of clothes with him and showered in the morning.
The sixteenth time, Reid caught a ride from work with Morgan. They had dinner before going to bed.
The eighteenth time, Reid stayed for the whole weekend.
The twentieth time, Morgan did some of Reid's laundry.
The twenty-third time, Reid helped Morgan do the grocery shopping.
The twenty-fifth time, Morgan cleared a dresser to store Reid's clothes in.
The twenty-sixth time, Reid went home in the morning to find his mail in a small mountain on the mat from the past five days.
The twenty-seventh time, Morgan kissed Reid as they lay in the dark.
The thirtieth time, Reid brought all of his things with him and stayed for good.
