Prologue

It was March Ninth when Severus Snape disappeared.

No, not disappeared.

Murdered.

No one knew this was the case except for the four young Marauders; Peter Pettigrew, James Potter, Sirius Black and of course Remus Lupin. It was Remus that had stopped Severus from breathing but you couldn't blame him entirely. After all, it was Sirius that created the circumstance.

"Snivellus, if you're so keen on what we're up to, you're more than welcome to have a look" Sirius told Snape with a mischievous grin. Severus had been studying the Marauders since their first year at Hogwarts and lately it had gotten on Sirius' nerves. So, he gave Severus instructions to get to the Shrieking Shack on the next full moon. Nothing bad was going to happen Sirius thought; it was just to teach Severus to stay away from them. Whether Sirius liked it or not, he had to admit Snivellus was a good wizard, especially when it came to Defence Against the Dark Arts. He was perfectly capable of making his way out safe. If not, the rest of the Marauders were able to stop Remus and protect Severus. That was what he thought when he told Severus, before they were given detention.

It was a harmless little prank they did. Went through Slughorns ingredients cabinet and combined them with the food that was being prepared in the kitchen. The hospital wing was completely filled with students for the next three weeks. The Marauders were given detention with McGonagall for the rest of the month. Once the full moon arrived Remus was allowed to skip detention and go to the Shrieking Shack. Even though they insisted, the remaining Marauders were not allowed to go. Sirius was still confident in Severus' ability to fight off the werewolf.

By the time detention was over, it was five minutes past midnight. Usually this would be too late for students but the professors knew how the Marauders often stayed up much later. It had been a long day and they just wanted to get to sleep. Well, except for Peter.

"He needs us" Peter reminded his friends as they entered their dormitory.

"It's for one night" James exclaimed, quoting what McGonagall had told them as he stripped off his school uniform into his boxers for sleep. "I'm sure he's capable for managing by himself for one night."

"If you're so concerned about him, why can't you go by yourself?" Sirius added as he jumped into his bed. They all knew the answer. Peter was still scared of Remus on the night of a full moon. With a defeated grumble, he joined his friends in blissful, unaware slumber.
