Disclaimer: I do not own Codename: Kids Next Door and I never will.
Ugh, computer's going so slow today. Well, this is something I conjured up. Enjoy. :D
The Nerd's Friend
It was safe to say that Bartie Stork was a nerd. He didn't try to deny it, in fact, he was quite proud of it. People didn't go near him at all when he was younger. Then he joined the Kids Next Door and realised there were even bigger nerds than himself in the world.
His favourite item changed from time to time, but always had a theme: the Yipper franchise. Only the so-called 'geeks' would talk to him, which didn't include any girls at all. He hadn't really thought about girls. He was only a kid. He didn't have to worry about that until he was a teenager.
Then she came along. Unlike the other girls, she didn't turn up her nose in disgust or run away. Instead, she sat next to him at his station and asked him what he was reading.
"Um, er, a Yipper comic," he mumbled, mentally slapping himself for becoming flustered.
She smiled. "I don't get how Yipper cards work. I've seen other boys in my sector play it, but when I ask them they tell me to go away because they're too busy playing."
"You want to know?" Bartie asked.
When she nodded eagerly, he began to rant. He told her every little detail he could think of, and not just the cards. He told her about the comics, action figures and video games. The whole time she sat there smiling and nodding.
"Wow, you really know a lot," she said when he was finished.
"Yeah, I'm a nerd," Bartie said, grinning, "and proud of it."
She laughed and he joined in along with her. It was the first time someone hadn't made fun of him for being a proud dork. Even his other nerdy friends would say it was strange to take pride in being one.
After they stopped laughing, she asked, "What's your Numbuh?"
"Numbuh 35, you?"
"Numbuh 23," she replied. "I'm in Sector K."
Bartie nodded. "I've played Yipper cards with the boys from there before."
"I'm not surprised. They love Yipper cards," said Numbuh 23, rolling her eyes. "Well, I have to go. See you later."
Bartie was a little sad. He had finally found someone who would listen to him ramble on about Yipper merchandise. He never thought that would happen, especially in the form of a girl. Why did she have to leave so soon? He probably wouldn't see her for a while now. The Kids Next Door was a busy organisation.
"Yeah, see ya," he said, waving as he watched her walk away.
'Yeah,' he thought, 'I'm definitely going to see her again.'
Only short, but I have an idea for another 23/35 story already. 8D
