Disclaimer: Not mine. Still on my wish list though :)
A/note: Another short, random oneshot for you lovelies. It's one of two ideas, but this was the one I felt more comfortable with. Enjoy!

~ 'Jack' ~

Captain Jonathan 'Jack' O'Neill sat in his office, chowing down on his turkey sandwich as he read the daily paper. A piece of tomato fell onto the open page, wetting the paper. Jack groaned in annoyance and peeled the errand, red slice off the thin printed paper and tossed it onto the ceramic plate sitting above his newspaper. Oh well; he didn't care much for tomato anyway.

Jack polished off the last corner and brushed his hands together, the leftover crumbs falling to the floor. The tomato had left a wet circle on the page, not dissimilar to one left by a cold glass that dripped with condensation on a black and white photograph. Jack leaned in closer to look at the image, his eyebrows rising as he recognised the Lieutenant General in the photo. His eyes drifted to the left of the image, stopping on the title of the short article:

'AIR FORCE MOURNS HERO'

Jack sat in silence, reading the short article as the minutes ticked by. Sorrow washed over him and he sighed in remembrance. There were more people than the Air Force in mourning at the moment. Jack tapped his fingers on the table, contemplating his next action. He lazily opened the draw next to his right knee and pulled out a pair of scissors. He slowly and meticulously began to cut the article out of the newspaper, careful not to tear the recycled paper. When he had the semi-moist square in his hands, he smiled sadly and rose from his red leather chair, continuing to stare at the article. He walked across the room to the pin board and after searching for an appropriately sized space, pulled a navy blue pin from the board and attached the article for the entire world to see.

Jack gave the story one final glance and turned back to his desk, picked up the vandalised paper and plate, left his office, sure to turn the light off and lock the door. A glint of light from the window reflected off the chrome cast aircraft model on his desk – an F-16 Falcon – and shone on the forehead of the elderly man in the image.

"...Lieutenant General Jack O'Neill, former leader of the famous SG-1, and head of homeworld security, passed away peacefully in his home in Minnesota on Monday. His wife, Major General Samantha Carter (Retired) and their three children were present for his passing. General O'Neill has served in the United States Air Force since..."

'Jack'... Old habits die hard.

So for those who hadn't guessed, the POV is miniJack's; I figured he would probably go by 'Jack'. Its set very far in the future, after the existence of the Stargate program has been revealed. Reviews and thoughts would be much appreciated :)

PS: 'Sand and Sapphire' is still in the works, I want to get as much done as possible before publishing.
