If you had asked me after the war what I would be doing five years now, I never would have given you this answer. I would have spouted off the expected answer. I was going to marry Ginny Weasley and together we would raise our family in Godric's Hollow, giving our children the names of my deceased parents; yada, yada.
However, everything changed in the moment where Ron embraced me when I finally defeated Riddle. No longer did we have to worry about getting killed, no longer were we on the run, and no longer would we deny anything. In that single embrace my life changed drastically. One moment I was just thankful that it was over and the next my arms were full of Ron as he pressed his lips to mine.
If you had asked me then what I would be doing five years from now, I still would not have given you this answer. However, there is one thing you must know about the Weasley's; they are stubborn to the core.
No matter how hard I tried to tell Ron that I was holding him back and that he should find some other bloke that could make him happy, one that wasn't full of troubles and turmoil; he reminded me that he had been with me every step of the way. He knew of all my troubles and turmoil. They would not chase them away as they had yet to.
Thus, our relationship progressed. Soon we moved into Grimmauld Place together. Simultaneously we remolded it into a house fit for a king, or at least a pair of kings. Then one sleepless night, my boyfriend told me he was in love with me. The next thing I knew, we were engaged and planning a whirlwind wedding.
However, don't let anyone fool you. It was just our closest friends and family; well, maybe it was a lot of people.
After a long and well deserved honeymoon to all the places we had once dreamed of visiting, we returned home to our friends and family. Next, we settled into a routine; we both got jobs that shied away from any violence. We had both seen enough to last us a life time. To everyone's surprise, including my own, I became a high-school teacher in the muggle world.
Ron had yet to find a job when he came to watch my school play in a soccer match. Thus, his love of soccer was born and he soon became a coach to the team.
We had each other, a great house, and careers in the same school, where we could see each other during work; however, there was something missing.
We both desperately wanted a family. Nine months later, Gabriel James Arthur Potter was welcomed into this world amidst family and friends. He had my ebony colored hair and Ron's brilliant blue eyes. He was perfect, and I was so thankful that Ron was able to carry him to full term. It had been touch and go for awhile.
Now, standing in the nursery, watching as Ron rocked our son to sleep, I couldn't help but think how different my life had become after one embrace. Yet, I would not change it for the world.
