A/N: For Hogwarts Online Prompt of the day, It's now or Never.
What We Do For Love
Narcissa stared at herself in the mirror, something she did very little these days. The person that stood in the mirror played no resemblance to the person she use to be, in fact she was barely recognisable. Her skin was paled and her once beautiful golden hair was showing signs of becoming white. But these minor details paid nothing to the emotions that ran through her veins.
I will never become what my parents were, she would tell herself.
Bella will soon be dead and I won't be following, she use to say as she held her head high above the world.
Then she met Lucius, a high and mighty forward thinking man who in one fleeting look melted her heart and changed her forward thinking, study hard outer exterior. So instead of spending time with her books and her essays she instead chose to spend more time with her sister and Lucius becoming a heartless follower of her now Lord.
To this day she still stares in the mirror angrily judging herself for her mistakes in choosing love over school and The lord over everything else. When she stares into the mirror she does not smile or frown or wince in pain as the tattoo on her arm pulses, like she would any other time. She instead stares wondering if the choices she made in her life are worth it. Wondering if falling in love is everything is is meant to be.
She hasn't even told anyone what the sorting hat said when it landed on her head.
"What an interesting turn of events for a Black, a smart head and a thirst to prove your family name," it mocked coldly against her soft ears. "Ravenclaw would clearly be the wise choice," it had said and every bone in Narcissa's body willed it to change it's mind as her stomach dropped through the floor. "Slytherin? Well if you insist," it had said before calling out Slytherin to the hall.
She had never let anyone know, yet she wondered how much happier should would be if it had sorted her into the house she envied. Would her blood cause her to still be standing here now? Or would she have met a Ravenclaw boy who would show her a world she wish she knew.
"Cissy?" Bella called from down the hallway of the manor. Narcissa pushed the ideas out of her mind and straightened her suit as if it changed her whole physique. She turned just in time to See her sister dancing her way into the room.
"Oh Cissy! Today is the day you do it!" Bella nearly screamed in the high pitched voice that Narcissa hated so much. The It Bella was referring to was the first time Narcissa would be killing for The Lord. It was all planed and set and the body of a half dead girl now lay at the feet of The Lord ready for Narcissa to finish her, prove herself. Narcissa nodded at her sister, her delicate sister that she wished she could reach out to.
Lucius was just behind Bella, his face slightly tinged with white, as if he was worried for her. Bella left the room quickly ready to meet everyone downstairs, Narcissa looked over at Lucius, the love of her life, the reason for this, the reason for everything and watched as he out stretched his hand for her to take.
"It's Now or Never," she told herself taking one more fleeting look of desperation at herself in the mirror and moved forward to take Lucius' hand as he led her away from any trace of the real her. The girl she use to know and love.
