A/N: Something fluffy written for the Sugar Sweet Challenge at the Young Justice Challenge forums. I hope it makes your eyes bleed, cause it's so fluffy! *shot*

Well, this sure was awkward.

Conner tried not to stare at the man in front of him as he ordered practically every donut in the cafe and a cup of coffee.

"Are you thirsty?"

"Sweet tea is fine."

He went back to the order and Conner half looked out the window, throwing glances to his company. The older man was fidgeting uncomfortably - loosening his tie more than it needed to be, refolding a newspaper, smoothing out his suit. It wasn't that Conner didn't feel the same level of awkwardness. On the contrary, he was probably feeling more so, because a flurry of questions that he'd always wanted to ask swarmed in his head. Along with emotions ranging from common anger, to confusion, to curiosity.

Clark cleared his throat. Finally he was going to step up to the plate and start the conversation.

Silence.

Conner repressed a sigh, turning his gaze back to the glass. At first, he was secretly grateful that Batman had arranged this little get together for them, but now it was just so unnerving to even sit across from the man that it was borderline painful.

Not a noise was made until the donuts came. Clark issued a "Thank you." and looked from the tray of assorted sweets to Conner.

"Which...one do you like?" Conner noticed that he was trying, but the slight annoyance at being asked the question was a bit overpowering.

"I've never had one before."

Seeming to be a bit embarrassed, Clark muttered an apology. Another fit of dead air between them, before Conner finally decided to push a conversation. Even for him, this awkward barrier was just too much.

"Which one do you recommend? I don't even know what half of these are called." An answer that couldn't be answered simply. It was the perfect way to start some sort of communication.

Clark felt the need to cough again, before offering his apparently expert donut advice.

"This one is jelly. It has a jelly filling, and it usually makes a mess-"

"Is it good?" He couldn't resist asking the question as he eyed the frosted pastry.

"All of these donuts are good, they just have their different perks to them."

"Oh," Conner looked around and picked up an inconspicuous looking item. "What's this one?"

Clark seemed to stare at it for a bit before answering, "Cream filled. I'm not sure what cream it is...you'll have to try it yourself."

A bit wary, Conner eyed the innocent treat before hesitantly biting into it. Clark seemed to be a bit amused at the boy's reaction; his eyes lit up and he took another bite, then another, and then the donut was gone.

"Strawberry!" Conner exclaimed, "It was strawberry!"

With a chuckle, Clark smiled. "Was it good?"

"Yeah! I wonder if there's another one in here..." Conner began scrutinizing every non-frosted, chaste treat, and eventually nibbled them to seek out his specific strawberry filled love. Clark watched with a smile as he chewed on his own glazed donut.

"I got another one!" Conner beamed as he held the donut in the air, victorious. He didn't notice the strawberry begin to drip, and eventually plop onto his forehead. He frowned slightly, and Clark was riled up into a laughing fit. It took Conner a while to notice the event, and he fully realized it as he was wiping the cream off of his face. Clark had loosened up, at least a bit.

It brought a smile onto his own face.

For the rest of the afternoon, they talked about various things, ranging from sweets to bits of television and movies. Bruce removed his binoculars and allowed a pleased look to grace his features.

Everything went exactly as planned.
