Secrets of the Locket

Tried to give you warning but everyone ignores me
Told you everything loud and clear

Called to you so clearly but you don't want to hear me

They never listened. And that would be their downfall.

"No, don't!"

She called out to the jeering first year Slytherin, but he ignored her and continued on his way, deeper and deeper within Hogwart's dungeons.

Towards the Vashta Nerada, and towards his death.

The unnatural thickening darkness of the dungeons threatened to envelope her as she swayed on her feet, before slumping against the wall, the coolness of the bricks against her skin soothing her.

She waited, and waited, yet she never even heard his scream. Her arm trembled as she clutched at the oval-shaped locket that she always wore around her neck. Her slender fingers traced over the swirling, elegant engravings of the silvery locket gently.

It was too late to save the boy.

The familiar wispy, feminine voice echoed softly through her ears.

There was nothing you could have done.

The third year Ravenclaw sucked in a breath before letting it out sharply; the voice was right (as always), there was nothing she could have done. The Vashta Nerada knew no boundaries as even magical castles weren't safe from them. Especially dungeons; even the torchlight that radiated from the medieval-like torches, that levitated inches away from the castle's walls weren't enough to drive the savage beasts back.

The only people who even noticed the boy's 'disappearance' were Luna, the boy's parents and the Headmaster.

It really did continue to surprise Luna - even after all the years she'd seen and lived through - how naïve and blind some humans could be.

Especially those of the twenty first century.

Though there were no blindingly obvious Dr. Who elements, it was still my first try at this kind of fanfic. If you know what Luna is then good for you.
