(Feudal Era)
Kagome laughed as Minoru, Miroku and Sango's son, came running up into her open arms as she arrived in the village outside of Inuyasha's forest. "Being good, Minoru?"
"No!" He cried out, "Inu is a bully!"
Kagome frowned, turning a fierce glare onto Inuyasha who was walking towards her with Minoru's sister, Kokoro in his own arms. "What did you do to Minoru?"
"What did I…!? You damn brat, I told you not to tell her!"
"Tell me what!?" Kagome grounded out.
"He pulled my ear!" Minoru cried out, his cheeks flushing as tears swelled in his eyes at the memory. His hand touched his ear and Kagome gently ran her thumb over the shell of it. "I wanted Gome, Inu yelled and pulled my ear!"
Kagome sighed, closing her eyes, she took a moment to calm herself before whispering softly under her breath. "Sit."
~BAM!~
True, Inuyasha could barely make out the word, even with his demon hearing, but the spell was effective all the same. His body molded into the ground, his fingers twitching from over the indent in the ground made by gravity and magics pull. "D-damn...it." An unfamiliar scent wafted towards Inuyasha on the wind, and he ceased the argument that would have most likely taken place after he pulled himself from the incision he'd made in the ground. "..." He sniffed the air, as the spell wore off, he pushed himself up into a crouching position and lifted his head, nose up. Sniffing, the smell of a human, unfamiliar to him, coming from the bone eaters well, grew closer and closer to them. "We have a guest." He frowned, "I think you were followed."
Kagome shook her head and turned back towards the well, "impossible...no one can go through the well...I mean..." she watched a figure appear and move closer, running, long hair in a braid whipping back and forth. "...Duo?"
"Yo, Kagome! You were right, this place is amazing!" He laughed, "I'm right, yeah? This is the place you were talking about last night? You said that "there's a more beautiful sight than the night sky from a rooftop"...this was what you were talking about...right?"
Kagome nodded, unsure of what to say as the boy took in his surroundings.
"So is this like, some kind of hidden passage to a lower level in Earth or-"
"The past..."
"What?" He stopped beside Kagome, and watched her eyes grow tired.
"You are in the past, Duo. The forest you were in, is where you and the others hid your Gundam's. This is not another place, this is simply put...another time."
"Eh hem!"
Kagome looked back behind her at an annoyed Inuyasha, though prompts to him for not barking insults at her or Duo, or trying to start a fight with the guy as soon as he arrived. "Sorry Inuyasha, I have to take Duo back."
"What!? No way! I want to stay and explore. I don't know what you are going on about, this all being the past and whatnot, but I'm stayin'!" Duo grinned.
"Tch, not if I drag you back down the well myself," Inuyasha scowled.
"Good luck with that, I'm no easy catch, buddy."
Shaking her head, Kagome put herself between the two guys, placing Minoru down as she did. "Leave it, Inuyasha. Duo, you can stay until I return, but you will return with me when I do decide to go back. I only came here to get my barrings. Inuyasha, until then, just...you know...don't start any fights."
"Grr..." He turned away from the two and his hair flared out around him at the motion, "whatever."
Kagome sighed before walking off towards a hut with Minoru running after her. Duo smirked cheekily as Inuyasha glared after him when he followed after Kagome. Kokoro was silent throughout the entire exchange, having never said a word.

(Present Era)
Souta shook his head as he watched the three guys who were taking turns jumping down the well, then climbing back out. Of the four, Heero was the only one not taking leaps over the wells lip. Simply watching, and recording each unsuccessful attempt away for later, when he could silently go over all the variables in his mind. Taking the failed attempts the hardest was Wufei, who looked ready to destroy the well altogether. "Look!" He yelled out, grabbing their attention as he did. "I told you as much. Your friend making it through the well was a fluke. I'm sure sis will send him back, just be patient. She left to get away, I'd be shocked if she ended up letting any of you guys stay around her in the Feudal Era...oh...that's if he even finds her. He followed after her a while after she'd already passed through, he could run into a demon, or end up in a different era altogether!" He laughed at the worried look on Quatre's face and the irritated look on Wufei's.
Heero looked at the well, turning on his feet, he made his way back to the shrine and the room he shared with Duo. He was done collecting information, anymore jumping down the well would just waste everyone's time. For now, he would get some rest.
Well...he'd try to, at least. Since the war had ended, he and Duo had been...together. Sure, they weren't always in the same room, sometimes not even on the same colony...but he'd always known where Duo was, and knew he could get to him if he needed to. Right now, he couldn't follow Duo, even if he was in trouble, he was in a place that Heero couldn't follow.

(Feudal Era)
Kagome stared openly shocked at the bottle Duo was holding out to her. "Where did you find that!?" Her hand went straight to the chain around her neck, the bottle that held the jewels shards was gone.
"In the well, it was lying on the bottom and I grabbed it before climbing up. Why?" Duo looked over the jewel shards and shook them around in the bottle, watching them clink together a bit before turning his curious eyes back to Kagome. "Are they important?"
"They are..." she took the bottle as he held it out to her, "I'm just glad you gave them to me while Inuyasha wasn't around. He would have made a huge scene if he found out that I'd lost this."
"What are they?"
"Fragments of the Shikon no Tama. To avoid any wishes being made, I had pieces of the Shikon placed into little bottles after the Feudal War with Naraku, I'm going to skip the long story, you can ask Miroku or Sango for more information if you are really interested in knowing more. Anyways, the Shikon, like I said, has the ability to grant any wish, and to strengthen someone tenfold. It's a pretty intense jewel. So, I purposely shattered it, and separated it into small bottles, for myself, Sango, InuYasha, Miroku and two others...Sesshoumaru and Kouga. This would allow us to keep the jewel safe, and no one would be able to make any selfish wishes. One day, the Shikon no Tama will be forgotten, and these jewels will just be some girls accessories, but until then, they will be guarded and protected."
Duo nodded, though, he didn't grasp the severity of the jewel, he understood that it could ultimately be used as a weapon. As such, he knew the importance of safeguarding it. The jewel was no different than the Gundam's. If anyone with evil motives got their hands on one, it could mean trouble for the Sanc Kingdom, their Queen Relena, and naturally...that meant Heero would be called to service again as Relena's bodyguard. The selfish woman that she was, still loved Heero, and demanded that only he protect her. Thankfully, with the last two years of peace, Heero hadn't been needed, and even Relena was forced to assume the tranquility would last awhile longer.
"Gome, where's mama?"
Kagome smiled down at Minoru who was standing with his sister by his side. His hand held Kokoro's in a firm grip, a safe grip. "She's visiting her village, with Daddy." She looked up towards the sun, bringing a hand over her eyes to shade them from the rays, she frowned, "give them another two days, and they should be back."
Kokoro looked down and stared at the shadows that danced along the ground before her brother pulled her off in the direction of the other village children.
Smiling, Kagome shook her head as she watched the two run off.
"Is it just me, or is the girl really quiet for her age?" Duo asked.
"She doesn't talk around new people. She's quite vocal, actually. More so with her parents and brother, but with strangers, she becomes highly reclusive." Kagome sat down and sighed, "it took her months to warm up to me when I first met her, since I hadn't been able to pass through the well for over a year after it was sealed at the end of the war, and I was stuck in my time."
"...so she's quiet because of me?"
Kagome laughed, "don't sound so depressed, I'm sure she'll talk to you, maybe." The sky was darkening, burnt orange and crimson shades of red were racing across the sky overhead. "The sun will be completely set within the hour, I'm going to go get dinner ready. Um, Duo?"
"Yeah?" He drew his eyes away from the sky, turning them onto Kagome as she stood up.
"Could you hang back and watch over the kids for me? I'm sure Inu will return with food shortly, so you won't have to watch them for too much longer."
"Don't worry about it, you're fine. I love kids..." a faraway look played in his eyes and something warm and gentle lingered in his gaze.
Not saying anything more, Kagome smiled and left him to watch over the kids. Tying the jar to the necklace as she entered the hut a few ten feet from where she and Duo had been sitting and talking, she got to work on the fire and readying water to boil. She had been worried about Duo being in the past, but thinking about it, he was a nice guy and truly fun to be around. He really was quite similar to herself...perhaps...that is why she was as comfortable being around him as she was her friends in the Feudal Era. Truthfully, she wanted to get to know him. Maybe...even the others…

Me: So...wow...I don't know where to start. Sorry for how long it took me to update. Whats funny is this isn't a story that follows the anime, so really, it shouldn't take me so long to update, especially when I had only planned for this story to be between 18 and 25 chapters long. I hope you enjoy!
