I know this is short. It's hard to write for these two since we've really not gotten much on the show.
DISCLAIMER: I don't own anything in this chapter. Everything is owned by CBS.
The first time that Penny groups her name with Sheldon's in what she apparently considers to be a cute nickname for them, Amy wrinkles her nose in disgust. "Don't do that, I don't like that," is her response, and it is completely true. She's not tied to any human being, at least not emotionally. There's that business of being blood related to someone, that business of family, but she can't help that and she doesn't belong to anyone in a way that others should start thinking of them as a pair. She's better than that.
A few weeks later when Sheldon tells her about the noise canceling headphones he bought during Leonard and Penny's relationship, Amy gets further proof that Penny is that kind of woman who would find that juvenile combining of their names to be a cute and probably "fun" way of expressing them as a couple. But Penny is wrong about the "Shamy." Sheldon is not her boyfriend. Amy does not have a boyfriend. She's better than that.
When she finds herself attracted to Zack, it scares her. She's supposed to be better than that. Sheldon knows that that's what it is, too, but he doesn't say it. He waits for her to, and when she finally admits it was arousal, Sheldon doesn't judge her. He takes her to face Zack, and when she leaves and takes his hand, he stiffens at first, but then relaxes his hand in his when she tells him that there's nothing to fear, it's simply an experiment. And when she drops his hand, he doesn't protest; he actually looks a little bit relieved; he has his friend back. She's no longer scaring him, and she's no longer scaring herself. She's back to normal, back to the woman who isn't attracted to men. The woman who's better than that.
The following day, she thanks Sheldon for helping her with that experiment. He smiles and tells her that she doesn't need to thank him; it was a harmless action and in the name of Science. She smiles back at him, one of the few genuine smiles that she's given anyone, realizing yet another time how happy she is that she's found someone who feels the way about science that she does, a man who wants to be friends with her and appreciates her intelligence and hangs out with her voluntarily and is as relieved as she is that neither of them want anything more.
And Amy realizes in that moment that she and Penny are both right. Sheldon is not Amy's family; they are not blood related. Sheldon is not Amy's boyfriend; they are not in an intimate relationship.
They are better than that.
They are scientists.
They are a team.
They are the Shamy. And she would never admit that to anyone, but if the name that Penny gave them represents the relationship that she has with Sheldon Cooper, than that name is perfectly fine with Amy.
Hope you guys liked it! *nervous smile* Maybe let me know in a review? This wasn't my first try writing Amy, but it's the first time I wrote a Sheldon and Amy story so...feedback would be awesome.
