Burn

It was burning. Everything he had worked for was going up in flames...

Phineas could not speak, only stare with glassy eyes. The spoon had slipped out his hands long ago, and now lay abandoned on the ground. How could it have gone so wrong? It had been such a perfect day, until—

His mind could not even think of it. The aftermath lay right before his eyes, and yet he could not move. Everything had slowed to a horrible, agonizing crawl, in which all Phineas had worked for had gone up in cruel, malicious flames. And there was absolutely nothing he could do.

"Hey Phineas!" someone called. Phineas could not tell who it was. They sounded distant and muted, and he could not drag his eyes away from the horrible scene before him. Isabella came up beside him, far too happy. "Whacha doin'?"

The boy merely blinked. He could not find the words to answer. It was too terrible, too tragic, too—

"Um, earth to Phineas," Isabella continued, prodding him in the shoulder. When he did not react, she turned to her faithful troop. "He's gone catatonic! Girls, turn to the coma-reviving section of your Fireside Girls manuals."

Obediently, the girls produced their books and began flipping through them, searching earnestly for the coma section.

Phineas was hardly paying attention. All he could think of was how it had all gone so very, very wrong in such a short amount of time…

"We've got nothing, chief!" exclaimed Gretchen fearfully.

"Maybe we should throw water on him?" offered Adyson.

Abruptly, Ferb appeared from behind them, and pushed his way to Phineas. He nudged Isabella out of the way, reeled back, and smacked his brother so hard they could hear his brain rattle.

"What did you do that for?" Isabella shrieked.

Ferb was shaking out his hand, though his face remained placid. "Oh, come off it, Isabella," he said with exasperation. Phineas fell into sitting position on the kitchen floor, next to the spoon. "When someone gets like this over a cake, you don't have many options."

*AN: And you guys thought it was going to be sad! Hahahaha that was SO much fun. It actually was going to be sad and about Ferb's death, but I just wasn't feeling it. To be honest, the only reason I posted this was so I could have something that said "Published 1-1-11." I hope you enjoyed my little... ficlet, I suppose.

Happy New Year!*
