Invincible
Stop running, heart pounding, adrenaline thumping through their veins. John couldn't help but turn his head ever so slightly and catch the eye of the great detective and then grin, just grin. A breathless laugh answers back and then standing, back against the wall, chuckling between gasps because that was – so – much – fun.
Alive again. He was alive again. Alive once before, in the fighting and the blood, and then dead. Dead except he was breathing and the world kept spinning and the nightmares kept coming and his therapist says he has trust issues.
John Watson does not have trust issues. His issue is there is no one to trust.
This man…this insane, brilliant man who dragged him along – John couldn't work out why – this man he trusted. Within hours he trusted. Sherlock helped him live again.
Warnings aimed in his direction. Careful. Be careful. From strangers. They told him not to trust this insane, brilliant man, and yet there is nothing else he can do. Words of defence spring to his lips and he is already pulling the trigger.
Trust issues?
Sherlock saved his life. A walking stick; dusty in a corner.
Hand steady he shoots.
Run from this man, they told him. Yet running with him fits better. A team. It's illogical, inconceivable but John taught Sherlock what loyalty meant. In that beat by the ambulance, as eyes met and the revelation clicked.
Running together and the blood is singing and there is - so - much - life. They feel invincible.
Ultimately those voices are wrong. There is something unbreakable here.
