Guerrero watched Ames with a narrow-eyed look that was remarkably similar to the pinched expression on Winston's face. The girl had her earphones in and was rocking out to whatever she was listening to, complete with head-banging as she mouthed along to the words.

Guerrero turned his attention back to Chance and said, in a flat voice, "Kill me now, dude."

Winston rested his head on the back of his seat and added, "As much as I hate to agree with anything he says, I'm with him."

"She'll be fine," Chance said. Two identical expressions of disbelief turned towards him. "Probably."

"You're mighty relaxed for someone who doesn't know what she's getting into," Winston said to Ames when it was clear that there was a lull in the song.

"Hey," she said and shrugged. "It's not like people are going to be shooting at me." A look of uncertainty crossed her face. "Right?"

"No," Chance said.

"Maybe," Guerrero added in a tone that made it clear that he might be doing the shooting.

Ames took out her earphones. "So, what? Is this like a whole big thing with you guys? Throwing yourselves in the line of fire to save someone you don't know?"

"Oh, so now you want to know who you're getting into bed with?" Winston said. At Guerrero's soft "Dude", Winston rolled his eyes and added, "You know what I mean."

Ames shrugged. "Hey, uncertainty's a lot better than certainty when I know that I'd be roadkill right about now if you hadn't let me come with you."

"We were hired to do a job," Chance said. "We see it through to the end. Doesn't matter what the job is."

Ames thought about this for a moment before nodding and slipping her earphones in again. "Rock on."

After a moment, she pulled one of the earbuds out again and leaned over to Guerrero. "Hey, how'd you get that much" – here she glanced around covertly, then mouthed 'firepower' – "passed security?"

A pained expression crossed over Guerrero's face. Then he said, "I know a guy."

"That's it? You know a guy?"

"I'd leave it at that if I were you," said Winston. "You really don't want to know."

She considered this and nodded again before turning her attention back to her music.

Winston stared at her for a moment, then turned to Chance. "She got on a plane with three guys she met a day ago, one of whom has enough 'tools' to take over a small country, and she doesn't even stop to think that she might be in as much, if not more danger with us than she was back home? I can see her history of making good choices has decided to follow her into adulthood, short though it will probably be."

Chance grinned. "I think she'll fit in, too."
