A/N: Hey everyone, Kurai here, good to finally write a bit after a long absence... I'm afraid real life has proven a bit more hectic than I can manage lately... but hey, that's life, right?
This isn't a Zelink, but it's a short drabble that I feel VERY strongly about. Why does Link do as he does? Why does he save so many people when there really isn't anything in it for him? This is dedicated to the Men and Women in uniform... I admire you all so much and I want to thank you for everything you do. I really appreciate the sacrifices you're making. Someday, I hope I can repay you for all the kind services you've done.

I'm Not Afraid

I'm not afraid anymore.
I'm not afraid to give up my life so that you can live yours and pursue everything that Your heart desires in this, our Fair Land of Hyrule.
My Fellow Hylians, I'd gladly risk my life if it meant a chance at improving yours.
A chance at giving you a second of happiness or a Loved One back.
Because that's the reason I was sent here by the Goddesses.
To fight for the weak…
To fight for the weary and the poor.
The ravaged lands of war are given no hope. Individuals are beaten down and forced to submission under the thumb of the dictator that holds some unknowable power… some, thought that the land is theirs to control, as are the people upon the land.
Yet this is a lie, a falsity, and the Goddesses know this.
They demand that the truth be heard, ringing out to every possible ear.
'This is freedom to be protected… This land we have given to you and this land should thou covet as thy own,' they cry.
And so they sent me to safeguard those freedoms and defend them by the strength of my arm and the wisdom of the Queen.
Yet is it not out of sheer duty that I lay down my existence for you, my People…
It is out of my own love for every individual here that I lay it down.
Because I know that every rolling knoll of Hyrule is worth saving. That every place and person deserves the life that they are given…
Because I know that every one of you contributes to this wonderful world. Because some of you are like the Kokiri who raised me, the Gorons, who gave me brotherhood, the Zora who gave me companionship…
The Queen, who gave me her Love and Wisdom.
Every single one of you has contributed to my existence, and it is only just and right that I should repay the debts that I have acquired over my seventeen years of life.
When I think of all that you have done for me…
What you have given me…
Death seems little but a sleep to me. A sleep in which I can join those who have dedicated their lives to the cause of keeping the Hyrule we know and love safe.
And so, I may be one of many Links…
One of many designed to save the people.
But I am unique in my desire to love and cherish all of you who have contributed to this wonderful land.
…And so…
I'm not afraid.
I'll never be afraid again.
Not so long as I have all of you, my Loved Ones, to fight for.
