Basically, I was reading through some of the posts on the Ingo Roleplay, and I saw where I'd ended up retelling the legend of the Zennor Mermaid. I thought I might as well put it up :D. Then I had an idea for a fic, which I will start writing soon...Hope you like my retelling. Sorry if some facts are wrong, this was off the top of my head, so I wrote it from memory.

And remember, you are always welcome to join the Ingo forum! We have roleplay or just general discussion about how awesome Ingo is.

The Legend of the Mermaid of Zennor

There was once a man called Matthew Trewhella, who sung in the church choir. He had a beautiful voice, and at the end of the evening, he would sing a solo, just before the church service ended.

There was a beautiful and mysterious woman who would always come to the church services. She's stand at the back of the church and watch the singing. Her name was Morveren, and she was the daughter of the King of the Sea. However, she always left before the end of the service, before the tide went out. But one day she stayed longer than usual. She wanted to hear Matthew singing.

"Half way through his solo, Matthew looked up and saw her, standing there at the back of the church. Her long hair had fallen down her back and her dark eyes were glowing with love. Because the reason she had journeyed to the church everyday had been for her love of Matthew. Each day, she had swum up close to the shore to listen to him sing in the church, but soon she had to be closer. Her father had given her a human dress to hide her tail and a hair net encrusted with pearls to hide her long hair. But on the day she stayed, her hair had fallen from the net and the ends of her tail were poking out from under the dress. Matthew stopped half way through his song and stared into her eyes...

The people turned to see what he had seen to make him stop singing. The mermaid turned and tried to flee, but her tail got tangled in her skirts. She fell to the ground and the people gasped as her shining tail was revealed. But Matthew ran to the end of the church.

"Who are you?" he asked, "Give me your name for you are the most beautiful woman I have ever met, and it is you I would take for my wife."

"I'm Morveren." she replied, "But I am a creature of the sea, and that is where I belong."

Matthew swept her up in his strong arms. "Then I shall go with yea, for with yea is where I belong." with that, he turned and ran with the mermaid in his arms to the shores of the sea, where he waded away into the waters and out of sight

A few years after this had happened, a fishing boat crew had a strange encounter. A mermaid told the captain of the boat that his anchor was blocking the entrance to her cave, and could he please raise it, as she wanted to get back to her husband Matthew and their children. Fearing repercussion, the captain did as she asked, and bought word to Matthew's family that their son was safe and well. And Matthew himself still kept contact with the human world, singing softly to tell the fishermen it was safe to take their boats out, and loudly to warn them of storms. And it is still often said that if you stand on Zennor head at night, you can hear him singing his children to sleep.
