When it's a Grin

A/N: I wanted to write a sort of uplifting, happy kinda story where the characters were the ages they're supposed to be. I suppose I got sort of tired of writing angsty adult-type stuff. (The story I'm working on currently is a drama romance and the one I'm planning is about the mafia...) So, what better team to use for this, than Shitenhouji? Their motto at Shitenhouji is so great! They're really my favorite school!

Disclaimer: I don't own Prince of Tennis!

Shiraishi walked off the court. Across the stadium, they couldn't tell. Even as he approached them, nobody but the regulars saw it. That flash of twisted anger and sadness, of disappointment.

"When you win, you win," Kenya offered in a forceful tone.

Their captain looked up. A sad smile and regretful eyes met his teammates. "Yeah."

We have to do something, the duo thought.

Chitose'd tried quitting the team. Shihan was a little shook up after seeing his brother and his team in tears after they'd been forced to forfeit. Kintarou'd gotten lost on his way to the nationals (which he hadn't viewed as something bad, but everyone else did). Kenya was about willing to do anything to win this year. Zaizen wasn't ready to be captain next year. The team was in shambles, in short. Now even their captain could barely hold it together.

I didn't beat him. I just won. I could have lost, he kept thinking. But, a win is a win, he tried telling himself.

Koharu looked over at his doubles partner and lover. He didn't have to say anything. Yuuji looked back at him. The two nodded.

This match was all out, they'd decided telepathically. For Shiraishi, their captain. For Shihan and his brother. For Chitose. For their last year. For next year.

For Shitenhouji.

When it's a win, it's a win.

The comedy duo pulled all the tricks they could. But Seigaku's pair was just better.

Koharu and Yuuji lost.

They spun around.

Shiraishi was laughing, leaning on Kenya, who couldn't get a breath. Kintarou was rolling on the bleachers, almost falling, laughing as loud as he could. Zaizen was bent over the wall in front of him, trying as hard as he could to not laugh. Gin had a wide grin, and a loud booming laugh. (Chitose was somewhere nearby, probably, laughing along with his team.)

The couple grinned at each other.

Mission accomplished, they agreed. They'd won.

Because when it's a grin, it's a win.
