The boy knows how to make a deal

Is what Glen is thinking as he watches Vincent brush a lock of dark hair away from his brother's pale face. The older boy is sleeping, and fittingly- tonight is the night for dreams to come true.

To be honest, he'd have liked him more as his next vessel— his will was nothing to be trifled with, and Alice was doing her intellect no favors by hanging herself in front of him. His temper was a raging beast, but he looked for all the world like a gentle lamb.

His sacrifice.

But his brother wanted something else. His brother made the deal.

A pair of mismatched eyes turn to him now, in their depths the things he'd lost a long time ago. And to the fore came the darkness he was falling into, and Glen thinks that yes, this would be perfect, just perfect.

"Do you swear to make good on our promise?"

He couldn't dream of anything less.

"Yes, I swear."

The boy is silent, even when Jabberwocky emerges from his shadow and slithers towards him.

For Gilbert, I'll do anything for my brother

To his credit, the boy only screams at the very end.

It only takes one night, one boy, and one dagger to seal the fate of Sablier.

And when Glen Baskerville opens his eyes, he sees the world through a haze of gold and crimson.

Gilbert, I'm coming for you…

There was nothing left for him in Sablier, and everything was waiting for him a hundred years later.

Author's Notes: I like my alternate-fantasies. What could have happened had the Baskerville Duke chosen the other brother. Ahh, Vinny.
