Spoilers for Season 2 finale.

Lanie started to go after Kate as she left the going away party for Castle; Esposito came up behind her and said, "Don't Lanie."

Lanie looked at him with her hands on her hips, "Don't you 'don't Lanie' me, that's my girl and she needs a girlfriend right now."

"Lanie, I'll go, just give her a few minutes, OK?"

She shook her head and went back in to help clean up. Esposito left and slowly made his way to the Irish Pub where he knew she would be. When he walked into the darkened room he saw her sitting at the bar. He watched her sipping what he guessed to be her third or fourth vodka tonic. He slid onto the seat beside her and without looking at her he said, "I'm sorry."

She knew he wasn't sorry for anything he had done, he was sorry for what she was going through.

"So, how many guys did you send away tonight?"

"I lost count after four."

"What did you tell them?"

"Same as always, 'I'm waiting for someone.'"

"And did he show up?"

She looked over at him and smiled, "Yeah, he did."

He got down off the stool and held her hand as she slid off the barstool. He put his hands on her shoulders and straightened out her jacket and said, "Let's get you home." She smiled and nodded and he put his arm around her shoulder and walked her home.
