"My Dear Brother"

Hikaru is, Kaoru thinks with a sad glint in his usually radiant golden eyes, my brother. He and I cannot be together; incest — or twincest, in the minds of others — is forbidden.

The depressing part about being twins and falling in love with your other half is that you can never be together. Hitachiin Kaoru knows this, of course he does, but he can't help feel a little bit hopeful that maybe . . . maybe Hikaru, his older twin brother, will feel the same way, too.

After all of the acts they have done together in the Host Club, it won't be surprising that they are actually displaying their inner termoil of emotions.

But, Kaoru thinks, unconsciously tormenting himself further, Hikaru is still my brother; nonetheless, twin and a guy. A guy!

Regardless of having a forbidden relationship, longing, he may have, Kaoru doesn't mind. He didn't fall for Hikaru because of his looks; he fell in love with him because of his wonderful personality. Kaoru feels a strange pull of fascination and fear whenever he thinks of what would happen if Hikaru is taken away from him.

Hikaru and Kaoru, despite being twins, are polar opposites.

Hitachiin Hikaru is more radiant, outgoing and temperamental; he is the epitome of enthusiasm. Whilst compared to him, Hitachiin Kaoru is more reserved, calm and calculating; the exact opposite of his brother.

Kaoru also knows the fact that Hikaru loves Fujioka Haruhi unconsciously. He knows that whenever the female approaches them — especially Hikaru — his elder brother's heart rate will rise, his cheeks will flush and excitement will bubble inside of him.

Still, knowing that his love is unrequited, he can't help but wish that someday . . . someday, Hikaru will reciprocate it.

Because to him, Hikaru doesn't belong to Haruhi.

He belongs only to Kaoru.
