Blue moon
Gabrielle shifted gingerly, as she lay down on her bedroll. Above her the velvet, starred sky curdled with the dancing flames, that gave the blonde heat.
Around her, trees were waving their branches softly in the cool breeze, and even the gods seemed to be watching the traveller.
She had been with Xena a while now, and she began to wonder about her family and what they were up too, the bard thought of Lila and what she might be doing now, She hugged her legs and rested her chin thoughtfully, and a sudden shiver ran up her spine as she realized how far away she was from them now.
Her gaze fell and seemed to be on a journey, it scraped across their camp, Argo gently feeding on a green pasture, The fire fizzing and at last it stopped at Xena, The warrior was sharpening her sword with a simple grey rock, it had become a routine now she guessed, every night or whenever they had a free moment, she was off sharpening that weapon.
The corners of her mouth curled up in a smile, and she thought of how much Xena had changed whilst they were together.
A tiny thought pulled her out of her reverie, and seemed to be knocking on her mind. This thought, or rather question had bothered Gabrielle a lot, but seeing that the warrior was her best friend, she saw no harm in asking anymore.
"Xena? I was thinking…" the blonde said gently, snapping Xena out of her trance.
The woman looked up, and strong blue pools, met gentle emerald seas.
"Yes?" she asked moving closer to her companion, her voice was unmistakeable for that of the Warrior Princess.
"When you were…you know bad? If I met you then, what would have done to me?"
Xena considered this, she searched the blonde's face for anything of maybe a joke, but it was serious. It was normal she thought for any person to ask that question. And although her face looked calm as it always did, her insides were ripping her brain thinking of an answer.
She took a deep sigh, which seemed to clear out any negativity in her body, "Well. You want the truth?"
She was really hoping that Gabrielle would answer something like
"No, I'm okay; I don't want to know anything about it" But of course she didn't She replied "Yes…Go on"
Xena stopped her midsentence "Gabrielle…I wasn't well in those times. I did some terrible things. But you turned me to the light" she smiled.
"Well…I would crucify you, sell you off into slavery, torture you. Or make you one of the castles slaves"
Xena thought on the answer herself "In those times, would I have done those things to Gabrielle? She felt tears well up in her eyes as she thought of her doing things to her soul mate. She found Gabrielle's eyes, at first she thought she might be upset or hurt, but the strawberry blonde's eyes were kind and loving.
She cupped her right hand on the warrior's cheek and wiped a single wet tear off of her.
"Xena, I don't blame you, I don't know what you were going through at that time, but look at you now! Everyone knows you as a great hero and warrior, you changed for the better"
Xena's eyes were warm, but even though she tried to smile, she wasn't. She was thinking of something else.
"Don't ever change alright? I love you just the way you are and always will" she kissed the top of her head protectively and lay down again.
Xena's thoughts seemed to die down as the night went on, And when she was sure that Gabrielle was asleep, she moved closer to her companion, and held her tight, "I will never hurt you" she whispered softly, and soon the warrior fell into a troubled sleep, still holding the bard.
The stars glistened brightly in happiness as they stared down at the two souls.
