"What are you thinking?"
It felt as though he had already heard that question for the thousandth time, but he was aware that Ace uttered the issue for the first time, although his questioning looks, which he gave him every time they lay together and outside the raindrops drummed against the small window, spoke volumes.
What was he thinking? A simple question to which the answer, he could give, would never be as simple. A lot was going through his mind at and the next moment nothing.
He imaged himself gliding through the air, the blue wings spread, the tail feathers fluttering. He enjoyed the wind that blew through the flaming feathers and gave him a feeling of total freedom, which only the flight could give him.
At the same time the monotone regularity of the raindrops made him remember the beating of his heart, which he seemed to forget so often. He was among those who lived. A small amount of people being allowed to sojourn on this whole wide planet a little longer.
He had already seen so many departing from this life and although he promised to never forget them he was grateful for each day his heart beat on.
The next moment he saw Ace in front of him, as he looked at him with a wide grin and he realized what true happiness was like. He had seen treasures, vast, brighter than any light could ever shine, but a single moment with his lover made him recall what he really wanted and needed.
He realized how fleeting their time together was if he wasted it with thinking about unimportant things instead of living it.
So he decided to smile knowingly, leave the question unanswered and pull Ace towards him.
