A Sam/Andy fic.

...

Disclaimer: Nope, don't own Rookie Blue.

...

A/N: Alright, I was extremely upset to see that Andy was still with Luke at the beginning of tonight's episode, so I HAD to write a fic about it.

I hope you guys like this one, I know I'll love writing it.

As always, please read and review, I live for feedback!

...

He had been watching her the last couple of weeks. Some might say it was because he was into her or something, but really, it was just because she was his rookie, and he was concerned for her. That was all.

Since she'd been seeing Callaghan, he'd noticed a definite change in her. She was moody, defensive, always tired, and seemed to second-guess herself a lot. It was beyond aggravating to witness. Even when she did get a chance to see him, she rarely came out of it with a smile on her face. After the incident with the foster kid, he'd thought that she would finally smarten up and end it with him, but she hadn't.

After the heat wave, he finally decided to confront her about it.

"Hey, McNally, wait up!" he called out, catching up to her in the parking lot.

She groaned in protest. "Okay, my fingers will actually start bleeding if I have to do anymore paperwork!"

He shook his head. "No, that's not what this is about."

She adjusted her purse, turning around to face him. "Then what is it?"

He placed his hands on his hips, looking her up and down. "You look exhausted."

Andy's eyebrows raised at that, her lips pursing together. "Wow, you sure know how to compliment a girl."

"I didn't mean it like that," he corrected her. "I mean ... you aren't taking care of yourself."

She stared at him with a confused expression on her face. "Excuse me?"

Sam sighed, trying to choose his words carefully. "You're not happy. I know I haven't known you very long, but I'm good at reading people. And I can tell that you're not happy. You look exhausted every day, which tells me that you aren't sleeping well. You aren't sleeping well because something is keeping you up ... or rather someone. And I think you need to be aware that ... you're better than that."

Andy stared at him for a long time, wanting to tell him that he was wrong, wanting to tell him that it was none of his business. But the thing was, he was right. She was miserable. She'd just been hoping that it would get better.

Sam saw that she was coming around, and stepped forward again, taking a gamble on his next words. "He doesn't make you happy, McNally."

Andy blinked, lost for words.

"When someone makes you miserable, you don't stay with them. You do whatever it takes to be happy," he told her.

Andy pursed her lips. "And what is it that you think will make me happy?"

Sam looked her right in the eyes, telling her without words exactly what he thought would make her happy.

She understood crystal clear, nodding her head stiffly.

"Okay ... good talk," he finished. After another long look, he turned and glanced at her.

She offered him a small smile, something that lightening up her worn face, and he smiled back in return before making his way to his truck.

Okay, so maybe she was more than just a rookie to him, but he wasn't going to push the bounds the of their relationship tonight. It was enough to know that they both understood what was out there, waiting.

...

The end.

Well, what did you guys think of this one? Like it, hate it?

Just a short one, but I couldn't resist.

Reviews are appreciated, flame if you must, but constructive criticism is much more useful.

Until next time ...!
