Chapter 4
A/N: So I know it's late, but here it is, the next chapter. This chapter has lots of explosions in it :P As always tell me if you like it or not. I'd like to hear what some of my readers are thinking!
Nikko had to ask the security guard where Nikki had gone. Turned out, whenever Nikki was upset she went up to the roof. Nikko could totally relate to that. He found the door to the roof propped open and assumed that he shouldn't mess with that. He stepped over the brick she had put in the doorway, made sure that the door didn't close behind him and then approached Nikki.
She was still crying, her back against a cooling duct with her head in her hands. Beside her black boots was a flask and he didn't have to guess that it was probably filled with alcohol.
"It's a little early to be drinking don't you think?" he asked her coming to sit down beside her.
Nikki turned a glare to him. "Why don't you mind your own business huh?" she snarled.
Nikko tried to not let that hurt him. It was clear as day that something was wrong, something must have happened to make her this way. Nikko wanted to figure out what it was. Maybe if he could figure out what it was that upset her he could help her get over it, help her get back to what she used to be. Honestly she had so much talent, it was a shame she was squandering it.
"I'm sorry," he mumbled to her. He was silent for a moment longer before he turned back to her and said: "You know, you're never there when I wake up."
Nikki sighed. "Yeah... I know..."
"Well... why?" Nikko wondered.
Nikki turned her tear stained face to him. "Because I'm different when I'm drunk, I'm stupid and careless. I do things I would normally do, and when I wake up I... I always regret whatever it was I did."
Now that actually stung. Nikko frowned to her. "You regret me?"
Nikki stared at him. "I can't remembering anything. I can't remember sleeping with you or how I keep ending up at your place. I'm a horrible person and a hot mess and you don't deserve that."
Nikko laughed and Nikki paused and stared at him. "What? What's so funny?"
"We haven't slept together," he said with a joyful grin. "We haven't even kissed."
"We... we haven't?" Nikki asked, honestly surprised. "Wow, I just assumed that we had, I keep waking up with your shirt on."
"That was once, and it was because you decided to strip. I'm a gentleman, I wasn't about to take advantage of a drunk girl," Nikko said with a haughty tone in his voice.
Nikki smiled at him. "Wow, you... you really are my white knight."
Nikko blushed. It was the first time someone had said something like that to him. Yes he had been depended on before, Spectacular used to rely on him but none of them had ever called him a white knight.
"I'm sorry by the way," Nikki said. "Drunk me must really like you. You're always the first person I go to when I get in trouble."
"Oh and what about sober you?" Nikko asked.
Nikki smiled to him, the motion warm and soft, it was the first time he had seen it. It made him break out in a wide grin as well. She was moving closer to him and he just knew he was going to get that first kiss he had been craving and she wasn't going to be drunk for it.
She was almost there, their lips were almost touching, he could feel her breath on his moist awaiting lips when suddenly the door banged open. Abigail stormed over to them her eyes on her phone.
"Okay, so I smoothed things over with the duet act and they agreed to sing a different song. Now I know you won't believe me when I say that I didn't plan..." Abigail finally looked up and found Nikki and Nikko shoulder to shoulder, red faced and staring at her in surprise. "What's going on here?"
"He was cheering me up. You were in the middle of apologizing, keep going," Nikki ordered.
Abigail blinked for a moment before saying: "Nikko, I want a coffee," and Nikko took that as a hint to get up and go. He nodded, reluctantly getting up and leaving Nikki alone with her sister. He had a feeling that whatever those two were going to say to each other was going to land Nikki at his house again that night.
It was three in the morning when Nikko was awoken by his cell phone ringing. He didn't have to guess who was calling him at that time.
He was already getting out of bed when he flipped open the phone and said: "Don't worry, I'm coming downstairs," to Nikki who had only said: "Nikko!" in that happy drunk tone.
Nikko moved down the stairs silently, steeling himself for what was waiting for him on the other side of the door. He threw it open and there she was, in a bright red dress, her hair curled and sparkling, her eyes done up and her lips as red as her dress.
"Hey there handsome," she said with a big grin on her face. She threw herself at him and wrapped her arms around his neck.
The alcohol on her breath had Nikko reeling, he probably get drunk just off her breath. "Come on, Nikki. Let's get you upstairs."
"No, no, no, no," she said slowly, her mind seemingly stuck on repeating that word. "I'm here because I owe you something."
"You do?" Nikko asked.
Then before he could stop her, she had her lips on his. There it was, that first kiss he had been craving but not the way he wanted it. She tasted like nothing except whiskey and rum and he thought he might vomit.
He pushed her away from him and for the first time Drunk Nikki frowned. "What's the matter, I thought you wanted me," she said.
"I do Nikki, more than anything," he started.
Nikki smiled seductively and pressed her body against his. "Well you can have me big boy, but you might have to gag me to keep me quiet," she whispered into his ear.
Nikko pushed her away again. "No Nikki!" he cried. "No, I don't want you like this! Why can't you just stay sober?"
"You don't want me?" Nikki echoed.
"No, I do, just sober. Stop drinking Nikki!" Nikko cried.
"No!" Nikki suddenly screamed. "This isn't a problem all the great rock stars do it to numb the pain!"
"But you're not a rock star anymore. You're nothing more than a drunk washout!" Nikko shouted back. "And it really sucks because you could have been amazing but you just threw it all away. How could you do that?"
"BECAUSE IT WAS MY FAULT!" she screeched.
Everything paused, Nikko stared at her not sure what had happened, while Nikki just stood there. It was like uttering those words had snapped her brain back into place. The clarity of the situation was clear on her face as she backed away from him.
"Nikki?" he asked, reaching out for her.
She snatched her arm out of his vicinity. She had started trembling, her eyes watering as she continued to back up.
"Nikki?" he repeated stepping out of the doorway. Something was obviously happening inside her head, but he had no idea what it was.
She suddenly turned from him and walked away. Nikko called her name two more times before she vanished down the street. He wondered if he should chase her but he decided against it. No, he couldn't keep doing this to himself. He deserved better and besides, he could see her at his internship tomorrow and apologize if he had to.
Nikko awoke the next morning and found that he had missed ten calls from Abigail Spade's personal line at the office. Immediately Nikko assumed that he was late again, but he had woken up before his alarm. His heart sunk into his stomach, had something happened to Nikki last night? Oh God, why hadn't he gone after her?
Nikko called Abigail back and was greeted by her frantic voice.
"Nikko, thank god, do you know where Nikki is?" she asked.
"No... why?" he asked.
"She's gone, she never came home, her car got impounded last night but she wasn't in it," she said. "Are you sure you haven't seen her?"
"I mean, she was here at three last night, but she wouldn't stay. I tried to stop her, honest I did..." Nikko said.
"It's alright, thanks for calling. Uh... don't bother coming in today, we won't be working much today."
Abigail hung up the phone after that and Nikko sat in his bed completely numb. He should have just swallowed his pride and gone after her.
