A Young Woman, Filled With Regret.
Author Note: I had the music (Time- Hans Zimmer) from the last scenes of Inception on repeat and suddenly got captured by an ending much less optimistic than what we were given. At first it was just the image of Ariadne crying and then it evolved until this was the result.
There are tears running down Ariadne's face, her head aches, her heart feels like someone is ripping it from her chest. Police officer's are questing her, Yusuf, Eames and Arthur relentlessly and she is scared.
Cobb, poor fucking Cobb didn't find his way back. Saito had woken up in the last few minutes before the plane landed, and made the call to free Dom, but Dom never stirred. On impulse Ariadne had gotten out of her seat, not caring that Eames was shaking his head for her not to, she put her fingers on Dom's pulse point - and screamed.
From there it was all a blur, ambulances were called, Doctor Miles informed and the police came to question them all. Fischer had been let out within seconds because of his name, but the others had to endure. All that Ariadne could think about was how hard the extractor had worked, he'd left his wife's projection for pities sake, done the impossible with inception. Why wasn't he getting his happy ending?
The police officers were becoming agitated with her refusal to do anything but cry. No one cared it was her who found out the man who gave her the universe in exchange for her getting him back to his children was dead. No one understood how unfair it all was, how heartbreaking. The team couldn't comfort her either, they claimed to not know her.
In reality they didn't past her name and job. Salvation came for Ariadne in the form of Desiree, her sister. Bursting furiously into the room with her attorney's the prima ballerina whisked the distraught girl away. But not before telling the police they would be hearing from her for harassing a traumatized young woman needlessly- telling the men in the room to be ashamed for not offering any comfort at all to a crying girl. The fury in her sister had a grounding effect on Ariadne, which she clung to.
Together the women walked from the room. And it was then Ariadne knew she would never create again. Not in a dream, not out in the world. She would never contact any of the team. Never go on a job to create.
Dominic Cobb had given her the universe and died because he was lost in his own reality. When the architect found out child services had taken Cobb's children from Doctor Miles and his wife, she adopted them. Philippa and James were all that was left of Cobb and his world - she clung to it and told them each day that their daddy had loved them deeply and that she had loved him.
