Chapter 1 – The seed of curiosity
Maddie was sitting in the kitchen, reading the newest copy of the 'Paranormal' magazine. Its front cover was covered with images of ghosts and scientists showing off new discoveries.
"Honey, have you seen Danny? He was supposed to clean the lab this afternoon" Jack Fenton's voice came from behind her.
She paused from the magazine she was reading for a moment, "I think he's upstairs doing homework. Have you checked his room yet?"
"I just did, but he's not in the room." Just then, the front door of the Fenton Works opened and raven haired boy with bright blue eyes walked in. Maddie stared at Danny for a moment, puzzled by his sudden appearance at the door. Danny gazed at her questioningly in return, but shrugged and walked upstairs. Jack looked between Maddie and Danny, not understanding the situation. He turned back to face Maddie once Danny left.
"Weren't he upstairs a few minutes ago?" Maddie thought out loud to herself. Jack frowned, trying to find an explanation for the sudden appearance of his son. His face brightened as he found one.
"Oh I know! Our son is a ghost!"
"No Jack; Danny is not a ghost." Maddie sighed, rubbing her temples, they had started to throb. They had gone through this conversation repeatedly ever since the ghost portal turned out to be a success, proving that ghosts do exist. In the end, Jack had always assumed that Jazz was the ghost. Apparently, they were wrong, resulting in Jazz trying to stay even further away from anything involving ghost, even to the point of getting a university far away from Amity Park. She did not want to lose another of her children's trust.
"He must have gone outside while we weren't looking." She said, more to herself than to her husband. Jack nodded and headed back to the lab, forgetting the reason he had came up from the lab in the first place. Maddie walked back to the kitchen sinking into her chair, lost in her thoughts.
'Our son is not a ghost right? I mean, he hasn't shown any ghost-like signs such as glowing or floating' Maddie thought, 'but then all our gadgets had always targeted him. And what if they're not broken…' Maddie shook her head at the thought. 'No! Danny is not a ghost!' Remembering his innocent blue eyes, she refused to believe that her son is a ghost. Yet, she could not help but to hear a small voice saying, 'But what if he's overshadowed? And what's with him constantly skipping class and missing curfews?'
Maddie tried to distract her thoughts by continuing to read the magazine, but to no avail. The seed of curiosity has been planted firmly in her mind. And she is determined to find the truth about her son.
