Chapter 28 – Stork Comes Knocking

"Tsunade said what?" Kakashi asked.

Next to him the Third Hokage's son had an expression of bewilderment on his face.

"She really said that?" Asuma inquired.

The two couples were is the Sarutobi house and Kurenai had invited the Hatake and his lover for a meal. Kurenai had send the kids to Konohamaru's place and they had been ecstatic (at least the ones big enough to play with their cousin) and the adults had the chance to catch up a bit.

"Wait for me!" Kurenai called out from the kitchen. A minute later she joined them with a new bottle of sake and more snacks balancing in her hands. "Okay, start now that I can hear better."

Harry shrugged, an amused smile on his face as he took in the eager faces if the people surrounding him.

"I told you word for word that she basically suggested I work on a mostly exclusive basis with Konoha's shinobi hospital. That amounts to closing shop for anything but supplying steadily to the hospital and any allies of Konoha on the approved list, like Suna for example. It boils down to a lot more work. The rates for the hospital are reduced compared to the consumers that come to the store, and I have always offered reduced rates to people who need them, so that is no trouble. Basically it forces me to produce more, add more people on staff and add my name to Konoha's medical personnel."

"Really?" Asuma said. "Based on what? You are not a trained medic or a trained shinobi, exceptional skills aside. You don't have the training it takes to operate Healing Jutsus and the like, not to mention your lack of familiarity with Konoha's military practices…"

"I bet she really, really wants the recipe for his remedies," Kurenai cut off her husband knowingly. "Those salves Harry have me for Isamu, made our little angel's bruises disappear. And I heard from several people that had cuts and serious bruising that they halve the healing time. That's no joke. Immediately that frees up the medic nin to deal with more serious cases. And I know that Harry has several more 'remedies' that deal with Chakra exhaustion and blood loss." She turned to Harry. "And those meal supplements you make? Way better than Soldier Pills, and tastier. I'm not even going to compare them to Haruno's ; yours are much better tasting."

"Harry's multi-talented," Kakashi pipped up, his voice barely a step up from a leer.

"No details!" Asuma yelped. He had taken to saying that a lot lately, since Kurenai had started asking Harry and Kakashi, whoever she managed to corner, for dirty, nitty gritty details about them, and particularly their sex life. Deep down, Asuma knew she was doing it to tease him, but he knew Kakashi. Even if Harry put a stop to it, the day Kakashi decided to overshare, would be the day he would be scarred for life.

"Not sharing with you," Kakashi replied, shooting him a knowing look. "You cannot possibly appreciate my finer skills."

Asuma groaned and Harry smiled in amusement at his plight.

"You know," the green eyed wizard told the Sarutobi, "You practically ask for us to tease you."

"Change the subject to something I can take part in? Anything at all," Asuma pleaded. "Can we go back to discussing Tsunade's order? Please!"

Kakashi and Kurenai mocked him, loudly. Harry just smiled at the ruckus they made.

On their way back from the Sarutobi house, Kakashi made them stop on one of the open dango stands. Harry did not need much prompting and soon both of them were holding a dango stick and walking slowly back towards their house.

"So, Tsunade's offer," Kakashi commented. "You seemed rather trouble by it."

"Trouble and flattered at the same time. A few years ago she was ready to kick me out of Konoha for fear of hurting one of her Shinobi. You, as you well recall. Now she wants to work with me. I mean, I do supply the hospital already with bulk orders. Tsunade, Shizune and Sakura already buy plenty of supplies for me, as well as quite a few of the Iryo Nin." Harry shrugged. "I guess… I got used to how things are done and this will be a big change."

Kakashi shot him a look. "You can tell her no. Or ask for more time. Or speak with more people."

Harry hummed and took another bite off his dango stick.

"It all comes down to one thing, Harry. Do you want to do it? Or not."

"I think I do. But at the same time, I fear the change quite a bit," Harry admitted. "What do you think?"

"I don't want you to decide based on my opinion. As you have mentioned in the past, I'm a Konoha Shinobi. And of the old generation too. I have been… Indoctrinated and brainwashed, were your choice words," he teasingly reminded the green eyed wizard.

Harry laughed. "You are correct."

Kakashi smiled behind his mask. "I'm not arguing that point. Just using it to remind you that the wellbeing of Konoha holds a different meaning to me than it does to you. I don't want my bias to sway you to your decision. You know how I feel about things; you can guess my opinion, but that should not matter."

"Kakashi…I both love you and hate you right now."

The silver haired shinobi used a combination of genjutsu and speed to take a bite from his dango. Harry rolled his eyes at the tactic and went back to nibbling on his dango stick, a thoughtful look on his face.

They walked silently for a bit, until they finished with their treat and they were almost at the house.

"So… The suspense is making me jittery," Kakashi commented.

Harry shot him an amused look. "That or the sugar," he mused. He unlocked the door with subtle use of magic and entered the house. "I think I'll accept Tsunade's offer," he finally commented.

Kakashi sighted. "Finally! You almost had me worried."

"Am I that predictable?" Harry asked.

"Well… I know you quite well so… yes. You are. I did not think for a moment that you would not do anything in your power to have your home safe. Konoha is that home now. Teddy is here. I am here. You have friends all over the place and most of them are active Shinobi. You have not once let anyone get hurt or stay hurt. I was certain of your decision long before you were," Kakashi reasoned.

Harry stared at his lover for a long moment before smiling and shaking his head.

"What?" Kakashi blinked.

"You are usually so relaxed around me that I almost forget how perceptive you are," the wizard commented. He leaned closer to Kakashi and pulled him in a tight hug, then pulled down the man's mask and kissed him solidly on the lips.

"Mm, sweet," Kakashi smiled and chased after Harry's lips for a second kiss.

"Let us go. I have an early morning tomorrow. I must track down Tsunade and tell her I will accept her offer. And then I have to sit down and figure out how to make everything happen. Just so you know, I am going to be busy and cranky in the coming weeks. "

"Well… I have several ways I can help you relax," the Shinobi commented.

"Do you now? "Harry smirked. "May I get a preview? "

Kakashi gave a smirked and gathered enough chakra to take them to the bedroom.

Harry did just as he said and tracked down Tsunade the very next day, to tell her that he would accept her offer. The Sannin and former Hokage had seemed surprised at the quick response, admitting to the green eyed wizard that she had planned to have to track him down months from now and try to persuade him.

"The Hatake brat did not force you into this, or did he?" she then asked, suspicion colouring her voice.

"No, he did not. The most he did was help me reach a decision I already knew I would make without all the angst. It was my decision, " Harry told her. "And you are correct. Anything could happen. I could get injured or be sick, or even die. Someone needs to have at least the rudimentary skills to follow the recipes and continue running the store. Etsuko and Hirohito are a big help, but so far only Hirohito can help with some of the salves. I will need to see the people you want me to teach. I have no idea if my skills can be replicated exactly and if the salve made by anyone else will be quite as potent. We need to try and test this now that we can, " Harry told Tsunade.

"You did think this through, " she remarked.

"Konoha is my home now. It is Teddy's home as well. I will do my part to protect it. "

"Glad to have you on board. I will have Naruto call you in the Hokage's office to sign the agreement with Konoha and after that I will have you sign one with me as Head of the hospital. Just so you know, you can add or take away anything you don't like, or you think that won't work from the contracts. Take it home, have someone go over it with you. We want this to work out. We are not trying to take over your business or your greenhouses. "

"I know, " Harry told her. "That is one of the reasons I even considered it. "

Tsunade considered the Uchiha and the girl he had found to start up his clan. Shinomori Kiyo was quiet and calm during the ultrasound. The Fifth Hokage has overseen the artificial insemination procedure and was currently overseeing the ultrasound and bloodwork, just as Kiyo was entering the three-month mark. Normally she would not even bother, but this was a Clan matter, and whether she liked it or not, the Uchina was still Naruto's teammate. The blond ninja was still not on board with the whole idea with the way the Sharingan wielder was going about restoring the Uchiha clan, but as per Sakura's suggestion he kept his mouth shut and the glaring to a minimum.

"Looks like everything is going as it should. Your fluids are as they should. The blood results from the tests came back clear, " Tsunade commented to Kiyo. She shot a look at the Uchiha that stood silently by the door, dark eyes on the screen showing the fetus. "You are a bit underweight for my tastes. "

"The morning sickness has gone completely and for the past week I kept everything down, " Kiyo commented.

"Any cravings yet? " Tsunade asked.

"I have not noticed anything,'' Kiyo admitted.

Sasuke cleared his throat. "She's more partial to fruit lately. Those on the sour side, " he commented.

Tsunade blinked and turned to Kiyo, who looked like she was thinking it over.

"Sasuke is correct, I think. I never noticed. "

"Fruit are good. Your glucose tolerance levels are normal and your insulin seems to react as per normal parameters, so until I see anything odd, go on as usual and try to keep to the food groups I suggested, " Tsunade instructed. "I'll test you again in a month to see were we're at. Anything else you like to tell me? Soreness? Muscle aches? "

"Just some swelling but I started walking like you suggested and Sasuke suggested light stretching for back pains, that helps, " Kiyo admitted.

"Good, "Tsunade commented. "So, we'll wrap this up and step to the side office once you are dressed again and discuss everything. "

Kiyo and the medic handling the ultrasound agreed.

Tsunade motioned to Sasuke and, then, both stepped out. The Uchiha followed her to the office next to the examination room and waited until the door was shut.

"Was there anything wrong? "he asked, trying to hide any nervousness he felt.

"One fetus and one mother perfectly healthy, " the blonde Sannin commented. "You have both been reading the books I suggested. "

Sasuke shrugged. "It was the logical thing to do. "

Tsunade studied him carefully. "Are you fine with the whole… pregnancy? "

The look he shot her was bordering on a glare. "It's not like I can do anything about it. And Kiyo has been… nice, during this whole… process. That is better than what I hoped. "

Tsunade nodded. "Does she have anyone to speak with? Aside from you? I remember she is not close to her family. Any friends or co-workers? "

Sasuke nodded. "I know Sakura and Ino tried to go out with her, socialize with her, but Kiyo is…"he shrugged. "They are Kunoichi and opinionated. And Kiyo had to end working at the store she used to work due to the pregnancy and because afterwards she is also be caretaker of the baby so… It did not go well. And she was accosted a couple of times by people due to… me. It is how she met Harry. He short of took her under his wing and he started including her in his tea dates with Yuuhi Kurenai. "

"That… sounds either like the best idea or a disaster waiting to happen, " Tsunade commented.

Sasuke's lips quirked in a small smile. "So far everything's going well. "

"We can only hope, "the blonde kunoichi remarked.

It was the scheduled time for a mirror call to his family on the other side and Teddy had been eager to talk to the kids from the other side, as it had been a while. He joked with Victoire, who was admittedly an exceptionally beautiful young woman and would only become more stunning and not just because of her heritage. The two had grown up with these mirror calls, divided by dimensions, but they had ended up very good friends despite the obstacles.

"So…" Victoire said as soon as younger siblings and cousins and parents were out of the way and only she and Teddy were on either side of the mirror connection.

"So," Teddy repeated. "What did happen with that idiot you were seeing?"

"Still seeing him," the young witch replied. "I'm in the middle of my last year in Hogwarts. Not like I have that many options left. And he's comfortable. After I graduate I'm apprenticing to a Master of Arithmancy in Lyon. We'll break up by then. What about you? You seem… more tense than the last time we spoke. I did not know this was possible."

Teddy sighed. "Just… Work, in general. The missions we've been getting lately have been… a challenge. Not bad, or incredibly difficult… Just…" he trailed off, not knowing how to put the situation at the Mission Desk with words.

The young Jonin was not afraid if being overheard, not in his own home. And if there was one person (that could not be consider with any stretch of the imagination and security risk) he could talk to about his heavy load and gruesome mission history as of late, that was Victoire. She was a dimension away and she had a wild streak to her. She was less likely to be shocked by what Shinobi missions could be, at least compared to her siblings and cousins. All of Aunt Hermione's kids had developed her high strung nature. He just did not want to voice those fears. His last talk with Kakashi had helped. As did the subsequent talks with his therapist.

"Is the work not what you imagined?" Victoire asked, not a hint of judgment in her voice.

She knew it was sometime a shore subject with members of the Weasley Family (and some of the extended circle of those who knew his Godfather), that Harry had allowed Teddy to join the ranks of what basically amounted to trained child soldiers. Never mind that it was the norm in the world Harry and Teddy ended up.

"It's not that," Teddy told her.

"Are you perhaps…lonely? I know you are usually much more socially active than me," the witch commented. "You said you went undercover for a while. I can gather that it would be difficult to be yourself, express your interests, and unwind."

"It was not that bad," Teddy replied. "Well… It was after a while. My therapist helped. Being back in Konoha helps as well. Harry… He did not say explicitly, but I think he realized what my mission was."

Victoire blinked. "Are you…? Did he change the way he treats you?"

The youth shook his head. "No! He became more supportive. And even Kakashi… He talked to me. Everyone has been really helpful really."

"Then what is the problem, Teddy?"

"I don't know. I just feel restless. Like I can tell something is coming, but I have no idea what."

The witch stared. Then she chuckled a bit. "I sometimes forget how similar and how different we are."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, we are both magical wielders. But I have been raised in the magical community and educated in a Magical school. While Uncle Harry taught you everything he knows and I shared what I learned with you… You are still not a fully trained wizard. You are essentially Shinobi."

"I know that," Teddy told her. "Your point?"

"My point is, you know how to sense … killing intent was the term you shared. But you have had no experience with magical premonitions."

"Like divination?" the Metamorphmagus scrunched his nose at the thought.

Victoire laughed at him. "Morgana, no! I doubt you have the Site. We would all know by now. Just… Sometimes, our Magic gives us subtle warnings and clues."

"So, you are saying I am not paranoid, and that something will happen."

"Not necessarily something bad," the witch warned.

"That sounds ominous enough."

"I would suggest telling Uncle Harry. We have all heard enough stories about his 'Potter' luck and sometimes weird intuition leaps. Maybe he can help you."

Teddy nodded. "I'll think about it," he told her.

"Good. Now, a change of subject is in order. Is your friends Kenji still single?"

Teddy shook his head and allowed her to steer their conversation to other matters.

In the end, Teddy did not get to speak with Harry.

About two days later, a frantic Ron Mirror-called his best friend straight from Number Twelve Grimmauld Place, looking pale in the face and quite frantic. He got Harry early during a lazy Sunday morning. The wizard was at home, having breakfast with Kakashi when he got the call.

"Ron? What's the matter?" the green eyed wizard asked. "Did anything happen to the kids? Is Hermione fine?"

The redhead shook his head in the negative and Harry frowned.

"What's the matter? Is it you?" he asked, feeling increasingly anxious when his first friend just could not get himself to speak."

"Harry, let him speak," Kakashi nudged his lover.

"You know how Grimmauld Place has that stash of books of the Black Family Library?" Ron started. "I had a case and we ended up needing one of the books because I was talking to Kingsley and he said he recalled Bellatrix Lestrange using e certain spell…"

"Ron! Kindly, get to the point," Harry urged the other wizard.

The redhead took a deep breath. "Right. So, everyone is fine. We're fine," he stated. "But I came to Grimmauld and I was passing by the tapestry and well… the tapestry changed."

Harry blinked. "That's it?"

Ron nodded and looked everywhere but Harry's face.

"Ron, you know better than me, the Black Tapestry is self-updating. Are Astoria and Draco having another child?" the raven-haired wizard wondered.

"Well… No. It was not them. It's Teddy. The tapestry shows a branch descending from him. The name is in some weird language, but his name is clear," Ron hurriedly admitted.

Harry felt himself blank out. "I… I'm sorry?"

Kakashi, who was up until that moment watching the mood conversation attentively, now looked a bit lost. He carefully touched Harry's shoulder, feeling how tense his green-eyed lover currently was. "Did something bad happen? Ron was speaking too fast for me to follow and without the jutsu you usually use… Did someone die?"

Harry tensed further. "No… Just…" He took a deep breath. "Ron… I'll call you back." He abruptly ended the call and turned to face Kakashi fully. "Teddy's going to be a father."

Kakashi blinked. "What?"

The wizard sighed. "There is an object in my house back in my world. It's a wall that has a family tree, the Black Family tree. I inherited it from my Godfather. Teddy and I, we are distantly related, but we are both on there. Every time there is a birth or a death, the object documents it. Automatically. No human intervention needed."

"I will ask more questions about this object you describe," Kakashi commented. "For now, though, let us focus on how accurate that is."

"Very," Harry stressed.

The silver haired Shinobi nodded. "I understand this means that Teddy is going to be a father, and soon?"

Harry closed his eyes. "Yes. And if I understand correctly, it happened while he was on a mission so…"

Kakashi winced. "That's going to make things a bit more complicated."

"I have to tell Teddy," Harry stated.

"And I will have to inform the Hokage," Kakashi commented.

At that, Harry was surprised. "The Hokage? What for?"

"You and your godson have a unique Bloodline limit. He is a Jonin of Konoha well on his way to making a name for himself. Even if it somehow escapes notice that a future child is his, that still leaves a child with your abilities out there in the Elemental Nations. How possible is it that they will inherit your abilities?"

The wizard winced. "Statistically? I will be extremely surprised if Teddy's child does not inherit them. It is very, very unlikely," Harry admitted. He knew that new blood entering a usually Pureblood bloodline resulted in renewal of abilities and wider genetic pool. Teddy was already the grandson of one such union. Nymphadora had technically been a half-blood like Harry. Ted Tonks marrying Andromeda had brought back the Metamorphmagus ability on the Black Family. Remus had served to further widen the genetic pool. Teddy had been magically active as a child and whatever spells he could perform were magically strong. It was extremely unlikely any child of his would end up a Squib.

"I will inform Naruto," Kakashi stated. "We need to track down the mother."

"And I will go see my Godson," Harry said.

They shared a grim look and parted to do just that.
