Fork in the road

"You- You're…..Alex Mercer"

The name stutters from my lips like the bitter after taste of wine. I bite my bottom lip, to keep it from jittering like there was a cold chill crawling up my spine.

There was no doubt in my mind, that this was the man. The killer, the monster and the terrorist of New York's Manhattan; the same man I sought out through hours of digging and researching, only to find out he was dead. But here he was standing right in front of me. And I'm completely speechless.

I'm scared, and my body shivers in unexplainable excitement, as the fear grew in my mind. As I stared up into the face of a killer, with cold blue eyes that bore into mine. I tried to look away, but the intensity of his glare, the way his upper lip was curling into a snarl. His stance and posture was hunched, ready to pounce at any given movement that seemed as a possible threat on his person. Though the evident injury to his right shoulder was causing his fierce intimidation to falter some, the shoulder slumped a bit as a painful jolt caused his facial features to cringe- but his eyes never faltered to not let me out of his site. He's like a wounded lion- when they feel cornered and threatened, they are at their most fierce.

I slowly, and cautiously with effort- get to my wobbly feet, and take a couple steps back from the dangerous man. I rose up my hands, both of them out in front of me- showing him I was unarmed, and harmless. He did not flinch, but his eyes narrowed in accusation- like he was judging me from my non threatening gesture. Probably determining whether to slaughter me right here and now, as I see his hands clench and flex, and I could feel some unseen vibe of murderous intent filling up the small alley.

He was going to kill me…. I need to think of something fast.

Then before Beth could do or even try to utter a word of protest to her harmless intentions. She heard a deep growl, it nearly made her cringe in utter- fear. It took Beth a second to realize it came from him. His cold blue eyes were piercing her skin, her very own not able to lock eyes like before.

"You know who I am…That's not good news for you"

He takes a couple steps towards her, that dangerous aura- began to prick at the hairs on her skin, causing them to stand on ends. She watched eyes widening in absolute horror, as the dark figure casted his haunting shadow over her, blocking out the sun and everything around her. Beth shut her eyes, fear taking hold as the foot steps stopped infront of her. Her breath hitched in short gasps, body shook as the cold reality of death reached out to- grab her right arm and spoke in urgency.

"Come on - we have to get moving- " The hooded man spoke expectantly.

Beth stared with eyes snapping open and mouth agape.

"Wot? Wh-what you're not going to kill me?"

Alex Mercer, a supposed terrorist, tossed a curious brow that raised slightly-
"No? Why would I- you tried to help me, so allow me to return the favor" Unexpectanly the strange wanted man tugged her along deeper into the alleyway, away from the main road.

Beth could only nod and silently follow, she was still in shock from everything that just transpired within the last two minutes. The woman followed the mans lead, to which further down the road- she might regret later...

[ I'm going to be honest with ya'll, I completely forgot I actually wrote chapter 5, but never got around to finishing it and posting. So here you go, after all these years. ]
