We Do What We Must
.
There are many terrible things in the world, all capable of inflicting deep pains.
Such is the way of life for all of us, a fate that cannot be undone.
But I have found that there can be nothing else that wrenches the heart more deeply
Than to see a loved one suffering through a battle that cannot be won.
You're helpless, completely powerless.
Trying to wear a brave face only hides the turmoil hidden underneath,
When there is nothing you can do to give your dear one the slightest relief.
But even a brave façade can crack with the pressure, leaving you desperate to simply hide.
Though, to abandon your loved one in a time of need, it leaves you feeling dead inside.
In these times, no easy answers are found.
Cherish those of your heart; if possible, let yourself not be filled with regret.
We do what we must for those that we love, despite any personal strain.
We bare the pain of two hearts, a worthwhile endeavor in the end,
And hope that time will ease the wounds, allowing our minds to remain sane.
