Squawking

Kagome sat under a tree, holding a sleeping Atae whom she had just fed. The baby now nestled in her arms asleep. But that's not just what captured InuYasha's eye. She was staring at something in the tree above her.

"What ya looking at?" he said, sitting down next to his wife. He wrapped an arm around her waist.

"Those birds," she replied, shifting her sleeping son to free one arm so she could point.

Two small birds were bickering, alternatively flapping wings and squawking at each other as they danced back and forth on a tree branch overhead.

He smiled and pulled her closer. "Keh," he said, kissing the top of her head. "Reminds me of us right after we met."

"It does, doesn't it?" she replied, giggling a little.

Suddenly, the birds took off, flying one after another. They circled each other for a moment, and then flew out of sight.

"Hope they get their problems solved as well as we did," InuYasha said.

Kagome reached over and cupped his cheek. "We did, didn't we?" She gave him a quick kiss on his lips. "Think it was worth it?"

"Absolutely," he replied, and kissed her back in return.
