Hrrr..my first IZ fic…I think. Truthfully, I've written so many I'm not even sure what all I've written anymore.

Zim's favorite time of day on Earth was evening. It wasn't quite night but it wasn't daytime either. On Irk the sun was too far away to have the gradual change from day to night that Earth had. And the planet was so big that day or night could last months each.

He sat on a hillside outside of the city, watching as the sun set. He looked down over the landscape, grinning to himself as he thought of how someday it would all be under Irken rule. It was only a matter of time before his plans succeeded and he could go back to Irk in triumph.

He didn't even realize that Dib had come up behind him until he sat down in the grass beside him. "Watching the sunset, Zim? I didn't think you were as sentimental as all that, though it makes you seem more human."

"YOU'RE LYING!" He shouted, pointing an accusing finger at him and twitching a bit.

"Not at all, no one would ever expect an alien to do something as faggy as watch the sunset." He said, leaning back on his arms and looking out towards the setting sun.

Zim looked over at him and regarded him warily. Why was Dib telling him this? He could have easily said that it made him look even more obviously inhuman and chase him off. But he hadn't, he had complimented him in a roundabout way.

He didn't know when his gaze went from carefully regarding him to watching in awe at how the dying sunlight glinted off of Dib's glasses and turned his pale skin a golden color.

Dib looked over at him, giving him a confused look. "Why are you looking at me like that, Zim?" He asked, tilting his head to the side in a way Zim could only describe as adorable. He blushed purple and looked away, embarrassed at having been caught watching him.

"Looking at you like what?" He asked, trying to sound offended and accusing. "I'm not looking at you like anything!"

"Looking at me like…you like me or something." He said. He didn't sound disgusted, just curious. Maybe even a bit hopeful.

"I do not like you, you filthy worm-baby. I hate you. There's a difference." He hissed. Dib could picture the way his antennae would press down against his head if he wasn't wearing the disguise.

"Of course you do, Zim." He said with a small smile that made Zim's face light up in another purple blush.

"Zim?" He asked, not looking over at him.

"What, Dib-stink?" He asked, looking calmly back at the sun set.

Dib took Zim's hand in his where it rested between them and twined their fingers.

"I hate you, too." He said softly. Zim smiled, watching the sun go down and the stars start to come out. Usually he would go home now to plan his next attack on Earth, but something stopped him. It must be Dib, somehow forcing him to stay. That's what he told himself at least. The truth was that he didn't want to leave. He wanted to stay here, with the person he "hated" the most in the world.
