"Master?" Obi-Wan began, sifting through a science holozine. "If you had the opportunity to time travel, where would you go?"
"I would not time travel," Qui-Gon said solemnly.
Obi-Wan gaped; stunned his Master had no desire to go on the adventure of a lifetime. "What? What? Why?"
"Isn't it obvious?" Qui-Gon asked, reaching out to pat Obi-Wan on the shoulder. "I would be afraid to."
At that Obi-Wan put the holozine down, his brow furrowed. "Oh... really. I guess that means you don't want to talk about it."
"Well, actually, I do," Qui-Gon smiled thoughtfully. He sat down across from his Padawan.
Obi-Wan sat up a little straighter. He was definitely interested. "Why are you afraid of time travel? Is it the fact that you may wind up there without your clothes? Like, only you will travel, not what you're wearing?"
Qui-Gon began to look uncomfortable, but the worst is just beginning. "No."
"What about culture shock?" Obi-Wan piped up.
"I've visited hundreds of planets, each with different levels of techonolgy" Qui-Gon exaggerated. "I don't think I'll get culture shock."
"Are you afraid you'll never make it back to the present?" Obi-Wan snickered.
"Not quite…" Qui-Gon said attentively.
"Do you fear going crazy after seeing your past-or future- self?" Obi-Wan inquired with a glimmer in his eye.
"Um…" Qui-Gon hummed, disconcerted.
"It's the alternate realities, isn't it? One wrong move and you'll destroy the universe!" Obi-Wan spat.
"Now, Obi-Wan, I don't believe in those silly theories," Qui-Gon said lightly.
"They're not silly," Obi-Wan sniffed, eyeing a time travel holocomic on a shelf. "Oh, I know! You're afraid to go back in time and become your own husband, wife, son, and daughter!"
"Of course not! That's your most ridiculous idea yet!" Qui-Gon laughed out loud. Noting Obi-Wan's disappointment, he added, "but that is an interesting paradox."
"You bet," Obi-Wan said glumly. "Besides, Tahl would have a fit…" He had run out of ideas.
Qui-Gon answered the unspoken question. "Suppose I went back in time and changed the littlest thing about my life. That would have great repercussions, wouldn't it?"
Obi-Wan bobbed his head in agreement.
"My path could change. Suppose our paths never crossed." He paused. "I may never have met you. I would have lost you."
Obi-Wan felt himself beaming. He wasn't expecting that, but in a good way. "I'll be sure to think twice before I time travel, too."
"I don't think you'll have to worry about time traveling any time soon," Qui-Gon chuckled.
I know its sci-fi, but I wanted to do humor and using time travel I had this really good way to have Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon fluff. Credit goes to my Dad for telling me that time travel's not worth it if you lose a kid in the process! :)
