'What did you say Potter?' Severus' voice was low and dangerous.

'I asked you if I could have a kiss.' Harry said quietly.

'Why?'

'Because a kiss isn't forever; forever would mean I could have you but I know you won't give me forever, so . . . could I have a kiss?'

Severus looked down at the seventeen year old and searched his face for any sign that this could be a prank. There wasn't . . . there was only longing.

Severus gave the barest hint of a nod and Harry laid his hands flat against Severus' chest and leant up and pressed his lips to his Professor's. Severus let his eyes close and he pulled Harry close, arms around his waist, something clicking in his mind.

Harry's hands formed into fists as he gripped handfuls of the man's robes. The kiss seemed to last forever but really it lasted only seconds.

Harry pulled away and smiled before turning away, not wanting Severus to see the tears forming behind his spectacles. Severus swallowed hard.

Severus took a step forward and caught Harry's hand. He pulled the boy against his chest and held him close. 'You can have forever.' He whispered into the raven hair below.

Severus was jerked out of his reverie by Harry's soft voice. 'Thank you.' He met the striking eyes of Harry Potter and he nodded; knowing he would never give forever.
