Well, here we are folk. This is the FINAL chapter to this story. I can't believe I finally finished it. I really hope everyone enjoyed reading it as much as I've enjoyed writing it. Let me know what you think of it. There is always possible sequels, but it all matters if I can finish some of my other fictions and/or I get an idea I can't ignore.
Again, thanks for reading and thanks for all the love...
Seth POV
Later…
I walked into the hospital, getting the same feeling everyone gets when they enter a place of healing, a mixture of anxiety and panic.
Or maybe it was just me, since hospitals were not one of my favorite places, considering the last time I was in one, was when my father died.
This time was different, though. Very different.
So much had happened over the last few years, I really was having a hard time believing that this was my life and not some novel written by someone with an overactive imagination.
It took almost two full months for Kira to recover fully from her near death experience. She still had a small scar over her heart, but it was fading slowly with time, as was the memories of what happened. She was still not very comfortable around guns and probably never would be again.
We got married a year after the shooting happened, opting to let things return to normal before tying the knot. Everyone from both sides of the family came, including Tank and Sharee. They seemed to suspect that something was not entirely normal with Kira's side of the family, considering how young both Jasper and Alice looked, but they didn't ask. Kira figured someday her friends would inquire about the topic and on that day, she planned to let them in on her secret. Eventually, they would notice and they would ask. It was nice Kira had a plan.
We remained in the house in Forks, enjoying the closeness to my family and knowing her family could and did stop by whenever they were in the area. I was mildly concerned that something would link Ryan's disappearance to me, but nothing ever came of it. It turned out that Ryan's parents knew of his mental instability and never doubted that he just ran away from home. They believed Leah's lie about Ryan breaking up with her and it ended there, to my great relief.
The hospital was fairly deserted, considering it was well past visiting hours, but I had an in. The nurses at the nurse's station just looked up and smiled at me as I passed.
Room 107 was at the end of the hall. I opened the door, peeking in quietly, the stepped in and closed the door behind me.
Lying in the bed was Kira, sleeping soundly for the first time in weeks. Next to her were two bassinets, one colored blue and the other pink. The newborn twins were just as sound asleep as their mother. I stood silently, taking in the sight of my sleeping family.
The door to the room opened softly and Leah poked her head in. I smiled at my sister, then followed her outside, so any conversation would not wake up anyone. She was already dressed for work, since she was the newbie, she got the late shifts at the hospital. Shortly after Ryan, Leah found a new path to take and was well on the way to becoming a fully licensed nurse. She loved the job and it turned out, she was good at it. Who knew.
"How are they doing?" I asked her. I knew she probably got the lowdown from the nurses in charge of the floor.
"Wonderful. Both twins are eating well and Kira is all healed up and ready to go home. She's just so exhausted, though. I think they want her to stay another couple for days to help her rest up for the huge undertaking of taking care of twins.
I scoffed. "Yeah, right. There are so many family members lined up to help take care of them, Kira and I probably won't see them again until they are old enough to graduate."
Leah laughed. "True. You will never want for a babysitter, that's for sure."
I sighed happily. "It seems so unreal. One minute I'm a carefree kid, running through the woods, and now I'm a husband and a father with two kids."
"It's called growing up, Seth. It happens. If it makes you feel any better, you'll always be that annoying brat of a kid to me."
I hugged her and she hugged me back. Ever since that fateful day in the woods, Leah and I were closer than we had ever been in our lives. We still picked at each other on every possible occasion, but now it was all in good fun. We somehow had become friend, much to the shock of our mother.
"You'd better get back in there and get some sleep yourself." Leah said. Between Carlisle being a former doctor here and Leah studying to be a nurse, I pretty much had full reign of the place.
I nodded and head back to the room. Before I opened the door Leah stopped me.
"One last thing. Who do you think they'll take after, their mother or their father?" She asked.
I knew exactly what she meant. Would the twins be joining their father's pack or would they be climbing trees with their mother. It was an interesting question. One Even Carlisle couldn't do anything but guess at.
I smiled at my sister.
"I guess we'll just have to wait and see."
The End
