Wanted to do a funny short fic for April Fools Day! Enjoy!

"Peter, are you okay? Your alarm's been going off for... OH MY GOD!"

Elizabeth had gone back into the bedroom to check on Peter when he was late getting downstairs, and shrieked when she saw his face, which was covered in red blotches.

"I think I'm sick..."

Peter tried to keep the facade up, but El knew right away.

"Ha, ha." She was not amused.

"April Fools, honey." He laughed, wrapping her in a hug.

"I suppose I should have expected you to pull something." She had to smile, her husband was just having fun, besides, she would find a way to get him back.

"It was Neal's idea, actually."

"Really?" El burst out laughing.

"What?"

"Nothing, nothing. You should hurry up and shower before you're late to work. I can't have you missing the opportunity to prank your co-workers!"

As soon as Peter went into the bathroom, Elizabeth grabbed the phone and called a familiar number.

"Good morning," Neal said cheerfully into the phone, "I can't get to the phone right now; too busy disabling the tracker around my ankle and leaving New York."

"Nice try Neal," El laughed, "Hello? Neal?"

For a moment, she thought that really was his voicemail.

"Fooled you! What's going on, everything alright with Peter?"

"Maybe. Did you give him the idea to color his face like that?"

"Yes." He said after a pause.

She was about to confirm a suspicion that she had all along when El heard yelling from upstairs.

"Hold on a minute, Neal." El ran upstairs with the phone still in her hand.

"Peter?"

Her husband emerged from the bathroom, half dressed and fuming. His hair was wet from the shower, but none of the red marker had washed off of his face. Unable to help it, Elizabeth burst in to peels of laughter. When she finally calmed down enough to listen to Peter rant to himself, she could hear a noise on the other end of the phone. It was Neal, laughing almost to the point of tears.

"You didn't..."

"I'm sorry... couldn't pass up an opportunity like that!" He said between gasps for air.

"Who's that?" Peter asked pointing to the phone.

"Neal." El tried to hide her smile.

A look of understanding registered on his face, and he took the phone from his wife.

"When I get into the office, I swear...!"

But Neal had already hung up, knowing all he would get was an earful about getting sent back to prison, being ripped limb from limb, etcetera. The chances of Peter actually showing up for work that morning were little to none.

He knew Peter would never put him back in prison for a harmless prank, but switching out the washable marker for a permanent one was still bound to make the agent angry. Oh well, that was what April Fools was all about, right?
