15 Things You Didn't Know About
Marion "Mary" Lightly III
Author's Note: So, like, remember when I updated this thing almost weekly? It's actually one of my most reviewed stories here. And then I got irresponsible and disinterested and let it die out. But now that Psych is en…en…ending, I decided the least I could do was upload more chapters. Imagine! When I started this, Woody didn't exist! Lassie didn't have a girlfriend, let alone a pregnant wife! I hadn't heard of Pierre Despereax! "C'mon, son" wasn't on nearly every episode! And think of the things I predicted! Lassie having a little sister (technically I anti-predicted that one). Henry saying "Go ahead. Make my day." Anyways, please enjoy this ridiculously 3-year late update.
1. His favorite films were Erasorhead, The Maltese Falcon, and The Princess Bride. A reasonable combination, in his opinion.
2. Mary was very hurt that Shawn and Gus believed he was Mr. Yin. It was an incredibly logical conclusion looking back, but still, it hurt.
3. He liked how 'Mary Lightly' sounds, as compared to 'Marion Lightly'. 'Marion Lightly' sounds so…Victorian. 'Mary Lightly' has a masculine grace, a distinct intellect, a spunky yet nimble fun. Like a bespectacled rabbit eating funnel cake, or a rock opera about yoyos. That sort of feel.
4. Mary's father died when he was 11. So he based many of his mannerisms off of his mother instead. Hence, why he shakes hands like that.
5. He enjoyed exercising to old Richard Simmons videos, but only when he could mute them and use Alanis Morrisette music instead. Isn't it ironic?
6. Mary knew he should be happy when Yang was caught. And he tried to pretend his anxiety only came from the possibility of a Yin. But truth was, he missed it. The clues…the limited time…the heroics…the social interaction (even if it was only to get the job done.) You dedicate that much of your life to something…it's hard to give up. No case would ever be the same; it would never take as much time and dedication. But what Mary missed the most…people paying attention to him. Taking him seriously. Finally being the most important person in the room. He felt rather guilty about all of this.
7. He didn't usually wear that onesie in his video diaries to bed. He usually wore a lavender one.
8. Mary had pneumonia six times growing up.
9. He made newspaper hats for Shawn and Gus, but never got around to giving them to the guys. Which was a shame because he considered them his closest friends after his mother.
10. Beat poetry was a secret passion of his. He rarely dedicated proper time to it. Here's one of his best: Swirly strawberries in a field of clovers. I can be a surgeon too with a fez. Bunny bunny with a wallaby funny. Twinkies are for everyone.
11. He did not own a bicycle, but a tricycle. This was because helmets never felt very comfortable and his ankles weights made pedaling a normal bike very difficult. Plus, who hasn't wanted a trike at some point in their life?
12. "The only difference between me and a madman is that I am not mad." That's his favorite quote.
13. His funeral had a better turnout than he expected.
14. Mary once had a dream he was flying over Paris in a 1985 Oldsmobile. He listened to Aerosmith and tossed his used Kleenexes down at the pedestrians below. Then the whole city had a riot and tried to shoot him down from the sky. But he managed to run over (in the air) a very mean African bat that'd been tormenting the city. So everyone threw a parade instead. And then he threw his chewed gum down at them instead. (Just thought you should know.)
15. He sneaked Yang into heaven with a complicated ploy involving laundry carts. Officials found out, but figured after that much work, she could stick around.
Author's Note: Yay for updates! It was difficult writing this in past-tense. :( Next will probably be Woody, then maybe Maddie.
