No wonder people liked her so much. I want to be Nancy too, thought Alice Johnson.

She glanced at an old Springwood High School yearbook that rested on the passenger seat. It had once belonged to her friend, Kristen Parker. When Kristen returned from Westin Hills, she would often point to the book and praise her "savior." Alice always thought that Kristen was eccentric. But she never said anything. Kristen was one of the few people that talked to Alice. When Kristen began dating Alice's brother, Rick, Alice was ecstatic. She had the hope that they would marry, and that Kristen would be a lifelong friend.

Once, when Kristen was getting ready for school, Alice peaked into the book. She saw Nancy Thompson's picture circled in red marker. It was a picture of a young girl with piercing eyes, and delicate barrettes in her hair. Alice stole the yearbook, when Mrs. Parker was getting rid of everything that belonged to her late daughter. The book edges were a little charred from the fire that took Kristen's life. They said it was a cigarette accident. But Alice knew better. She was in the nightmare. She watched as Kristen's beautiful face and hair was singed by the boiler flames.

After giving birth to Jacob, Alice would spend nights crying herself to sleep. Springwood was not the same place anymore. It was a graveyard. Alice missed her mother. When they first moved to Springwood, her mother used to open all the windows in the morning—to let the wind brush against the chimes. The wind chimes were taken down years ago, but Alice could still hear their faint jangling. Alice wondered if she would fall prey to the same illness that took her mother's life. How ironic to survive one menace to encounter another. Dreaming was becoming detrimental to Alice's health. When she woke up from her last encounter with Krueger, blood was dripping down her nose. Lately, every time Alice dreamed, it was painful when she woke up. Perhaps she was creating a mental block to keep Freddy Krueger at bay. He is bound to rise again someday, after all.

But will Alice be there to confront him? If she could ever speak to Nancy, Alice would ask her "Am I being selfish?" She imagined Nancy would give her a hard look. "I know I'm the Dream Master, but I have an infant son now. I need to leave Springwood." Nancy would have her arms crossed. "Please. He might kill my son." She hoped that Nancy would understand. But why should Alice care? She did not even know about Nancy until finding the cassette that Kristen left behind. It was buried inside of the yearbook—in a compartment made of cut pages.

When she played the cassette, Kristen told everything about the Dream Warriors and Nancy Thompson. She spoke about Nancy's history, and the brave streak that would cost her life. But Alice was not as strong as Nancy. Freddy Krueger took her brother, her boyfriend, her friends, and almost her son. Who else will be sacrificed? To be fair, Nancy lost both of her parents to Freddy. But Nancy herself was never a mother. Being in Springwood was dangerous to everybody that Alice loved.

Alice looks in the rearview mirror, and sees Jacob asleep in the car seat. Dan's parents won't be pleased, thought Alice, how would I explain it to them: Look, I have to leave town. Otherwise the same dream demon that claimed your son will claim your grandchild. I'm sure that would go well. Still, Alice had no regrets. We're done with Springwood, Alice thought, as they passed the "Welcome to Springwood" sign. I hope you can respect that Nancy.
