The cave ceiling swam in his vision. His blood matched the beautiful red satin sheets beneath him.

Footsteps…could it be Christine?

"Erik?"

No, not Christine…

A blonde woman came into view. Her beautiful sapphire eyes were filled with sorrow and calm. Good, she knew that he did not want to be saved…

"Meg," he whispered hoarsely.

"Erik," Meg nodded. She had grown much more mature over the years. "I came here…so you would be proved wrong."

Erik looked at her in confusion. But she just merely climbed onto the bed and laid his head on her lap.

"You," Meg sighed, "You deserve a friend more than anyone, Erik. So, I'm here to be the friend…you don't have to die alone as you said."

She took off his mask and held his face. Erik was too weak to stop her now.

A beautiful voice worthy of a thousand angels filled his senses.

"Beautiful Angel of Darkness,

"What kind of life have you known?

"I've always been here to show you,

"You were never alone!"

Erik felt a single tear go down his face. Meg wiped it away easily. She was always there, wasn't she? Even though standing in Christine's shadow, she cast a light of her own. He was just too blind to see it.

"Forgive me," he breathed.

"There's nothing to forgive." Meg smiled sadly, "You won't go to Hell, Erik. I'll sing you all the way to Heaven if I have to."

Erik hissed as more of his blood poured. But it all went away as the perfect voice sang again.

"Angel of Music, guide and guardian,

"Give this man one more chance.

"Angel of Music, do not shun him,

"Give him salvation!"

And instead of darkness, a light came…

"Goodbye, Erik…my friend…"

Lips kissing the deformity on his face was the last thing Erik Destler ever felt.
