It wasn't about appearances. It wasn't about nice clothes or flashy jewelry. It was about acceptance. Andrea Sachs wanted the acceptance and approval of those around her, and for once in her life, she stooped to a lower level to acquire it. In the past, she had never really had to work too hard to prove herself; she was a sweet girl, and people didn't often question a sweet girl's capabilities.

And then came Runway. She was looked down upon by every living soul at the magazine, and it absolutely disgusted her. Yes, she was the kind of person that aimed to please everyone; but no matter how hard she tried, there was always one woman who was never satisfied. One woman who viewed her efforts as inconvenience.

Miranda Priestly was the woman Andrea wanted to be, minus the Ice Queen image. She was successful, powerful, direct, and absolutely gorgeous. You wanted her on your side no matter what; cross her in any way, and say goodbye to any long term career plans. Andrea admired powerful women, and as much as she hated Miranda's treatment of staff, she wanted to be viewed as acceptable.

So she changed. Revamped her wardrobe, and with it, her personality. She became more aggressive and more like leadership quality; and, very slowly, worthy of Miranda's trust. And while Andrea stayed true to her old feelings on the outside when Miranda put her in front of Emily, she was silently celebrating an incredibly powerful triumph.

Too bad she was in complete denial. Never would she admit that this had morphed into a battle for love.
