Glee belongs to Ryan Murphy. The song is Regina Spektor's The Call.

It started out as a feeling
Which then grew into a hope
Which then turned into a quiet thought
Which then turned into a quiet word

Kurt remembered the first time he had seen Puck do something selfless; the club had needed to raise money to fly to Vegas for Nationals. Puck had volunteered to do a sponsored shave of his head - most of the school had given at least something. He'd realised then that the elder boy was a good person, buried beneath years of peer pressure.

And then that word grew louder and louder
'Til it was a battle cry

His feelings grew stronger over the next year. He noticed every good deed Puck did, from holding the door open for him as left practice, to beating up a hockey player who slushied him. He couldn't bear the thought of life without Puck. Or, as he now thought of him, Noah. But he knew he would have to one day; he couldn't spend the rest of his life in Lima.

I'll come back
When you call me
No need to say goodbye

Kurt was going to university in England. He'd caught the first plane home when Finn called to tell him about the car crash. Noah was in a coma. No-one knew if he would survive.

Just because everything's changing
Doesn't mean it's never
Been this way before

He'd spent the night holding Noah's hand, telling him all he felt. He hadn't realised the elder boy was conscious. The first he knew was when he felt his hand being squeezed, then a gentle tug to pull him towards the injured boy. As the two boys gazed into each other's eyes, Noah whispered, "Kiss me". And so Kurt had.

All you can do is try to know
Who your friends are
As you head off to the war

Kurt remembered all these moments as he sat in the base airport, watching the aeroplane take his love to some eastern war zone. Noah had fully recovered from his injuries, and joined the army. He never mentioned that first night; the doctors said it was amnesia. He'd accepted the offer of a three year tour.

Pick a star on the dark horizon
And follow the light

Every night he gazed up at the stars, wondering if the man he loved was doing the same. Kurt had promised himself he would get him back, one day.

You'll come back
When it's over
No need to say good bye

Kurt had spent most of his free time at uni petitioning both the British and American governments to end the fighting. Most of his supporters assumed he was campaigning for peace. They didn't even guess at his real motivation.

Now we're back to the beginning
It's just a feeling and no one knows yet
But just because they can't feel it too
Doesn't mean that you have to forget

He'd finally done it. He'd been hailed by many as a great diplomat when he'd managed to achieve a peaceful conclusion to the fighting - Kurt only cared about the opinion of one man. A man who had once volunteered to remove the strongest part of his identity to help his friends.

Kurt had waited outside the army base for Noah's return, hoping against hope that he might have remembered that one night in the hospital.

Let your memories grow stronger and stronger
'Til they're before your eyes

Noah had noticed him as he left the base. He'd walked straight over and wrapped him in a bear hug. "You saved me. Twice."

He'd responded to Kurt's puzzled look. "It was only you that kept me from giving up, that night. I had nothing else worth living for, but you've always been there. And now you've brought me home safely to you."

And Noah had kissed him.

You'll come back
When they call you
No need to say good bye
