Alice stood on the cliff over-looking the sea. He had left. The wind seemed to scream gone, left, empty. The place where he always was burned even though the wind blowing on her face was icy cold. She felt abandoned.

He had always said he was leaving. After a slip, when it got harder. She had always talked him out of it. Now Jasper was gone. Maria had came and ripped them apart. She had killed kids, kids not even 13 years of age. Jasper had been helpless to resist. The next day, he was gone.

Memories of their life came rushing in on her. She holding out her hand, he taking it without thinking. Talking about their life together. Finding the Cullens. The first time he almost slipped and her warning him. Stop, she had to stop. The memories of Jasper where threaten to drown her in sorrow.

"Alice. Come home. Esme said to ask you. Please." Edward pleaded from the woods a little over 50 feet behind him.

Alice glared into the wind one last time. He would come home. He had to.

Alice sat rocking on the armchair where Jasper always sat. She hadn't moved in over a week. Edward had worried at first because she hadn't seen anything at all in her future. Then he knew that it was because she was hiding from the fact that Jasper wouldn't be in it. Her thoughts haunted by his memory. Each burning more than the last. Edward knew she wouldn't be able to live without him much longer.

From far away there was a whisper of a thought on the wind. It couldn't be… Jasper was headed toward the house. But when he left he had decided never to come home. Now his thoughts were only for Alice. He knew he had hurt her badly by leaving. He would always see this last week as him being a coward. He had tried running away, but her pull would always bring him back. It was just how they were.

Jasper was in the doorway. Alice's thoughts from pain and fear to joy and love, fully centered on Jasper. She leaped up from her chair and into his waiting arms without asking any questions.

Edward left the house. He didn't understand these lovers. He didn't think he ever would.
