Author's Notes: Written for the December 1st 2005 jackfic drabble word 'peridot', or was it the October 20th 2006 drabble topic 'write a drabble for Jack's birthday'. Oiy, I forget. Either way, it's late! This has been sitting, unfinished, on my hard drive for a long time. Unbeta'd.
"I've been trying to find a gift for Jack for his birthday, but I'm not having any luck. You should have seen the look on the face of the woman in the men's department at WalMart when I asked if they had anything in peridot. She gave me a really weird look then said if I was looking for something for my girlfriend I should try the ladies department!"
Sam tried not to laugh at Daniel's emphatic movements. "What did you say?"
"I couldn't say anything. I mean really, she thought I was looking for something for my girlfriend, for crying out loud! Why can't Jack have a normal favorite color like blue or red like everyone else?"
Sam couldn't help but wonder if Daniel realized just how much he sounded like the colonel just then. "Because he's the colonel," she replied with a smile as if that explained everything.
When he thought about it, Daniel realized that it really did. Returning the smile, he said, "Yeah, I guess it does. See you later Sam," he turned to leave then stopped and looked back to Sam. "I'm gonna to head over to the mall to see if they have anything. Wanna come?"
Daniel waited as Sam stared at her computer screen for a moment then looked up, "Sure. I still haven't gotten the colonel anything either."
Grinning, Daniel replied, "Great!" He couldn't think of a better way to spend the day then shopping with a friend for his best friend's birthday.
