Today. Wow, so far no one has bothered me. I'd stare off in space all day if I could trying to forget the why my mom would calm me down or help me or give me advice, which is very helpful. The biggest advice she gave was to tease Kimmy Gibbler back. I always laugh at that memory. It's the one I cherish most. Why, you ask. Because that was the last time I ever saw my mom before she was killed in the car chrash.

"Hello. Hello. Earth to Steph." It was Jennifer.

"Steph you've been staring for long enough. Class is over." I gathered my stuff and my thoughts and walked out to the hallway where we meet Ali. Soon kids flooded the halls meaning some one had started a fight in the cafeteria. As I was talking to my friends something caught my eye. More like some one.

There in the corner was Charles. He noticed me staring so he got up and started walking my way. When he reached us every one was staring they knew they just knew a fight was coming the just didn't think it would be so silent.

"Go away, Charles, nobody want you around," jeered Jessica, a girl who was in my class. Many people started agreeing. Charles looked crestfallen and in a meek voice he said he needed to talk to me alone. Finally after I convinced them I would be all right they left. Charles turned toward me slowly. As soon as he got as close as possible, he whispered, "You promised not to tell."

"Charles, I'm so sorry."

" They took me away from my dad, Steph. He was the only family I had."

"I know but it wasn't safe for you to be in the house."

"Still you promised and next time don't mess with my life, or you will be sorry"

For a breif second he looked at me with sorrow and said, "I'm sorry about your mom, but what ever you do I don't need your help. You knew what would happen and you did it anyway."

He said the last words in such a venomous tone that I knew he wasn't kidding. He walked away with the same air around him. People were avoiding getting in his way for it was dangerous.

When he was a few feet away I walked forward some and said, loud enough for all to hear, "what would have happened to you if we didn't"?

Charles stopped and the hall became silent. "What would have happened to you if I hadn't. Just think about that and come back when you have your answer."

And with that I turned down the hall crying for Charles and my mom.
