Ok, so I was forced to reading this book with my class when I realized that everyone seemed to think Odysseus was some kind of hero. I mean I was the only one that thought 'hey, this guy just shows up after 20 years and kills a bunch of people even AFTER they surrendered'. It might be just me, but that seems pretty bad and well un-hero like. Besides they never really give the suitors a voice. Sure they mention a few names and some little details but that's it. Plus I'm sure at least 1 of the suitors must have been a somewhat decent guy, hence this poem. It's kind of depressing but… wait... what am I doing babbling? JUST READ IT!

By the way… seeing as this story was invented thousands of years ago, and since last time I checked I'm not immortal... that means it's not mine!

The Last One

He's coming for us, he's coming for us

With bow and spear and sword

Already Antínoos, the bravest, the best

He's fallen, blood smoking on the floor

So what hope, what prayer can the rest of us utter

What could save us from this man, this inhuman monster

He's coming for us, he's coming for us

Already so many are dead

Eurymakhos, Amphinomos, Agelaos, Peisandros,

And yet more continue to fall every minute
Down they go to deaths cold embrace

And yet still they continue to kill

Bloody Odysseus, savage Telemakhos,

And two more now

two more whose names are unknown

Yet they continue to cut down my fellow suitors

As if a scythe before a field of wheat

He's coming for us, he's coming for us

Were trapped, there's no way out

We've pleaded, we've fought

but it's clear the gods have already chosen a victor

and it is not us

it's time for me now, to travel down the lonely cold roads

down to Hades immortal kingdom

to face what judgment I might find

please be merciful O lord of the dead

He's coming for us, he's coming for us

And now I alone am left

To face my death on Odysseus's bloody sword

Why have I been condemned to die here

In this luxurious golden hall, once a place of laughter and joy

How was I supposed to know he was still alive

Merely waiting to return to his home

It wasn't fair, it isn't fair

I don't deserve this death

I did nothing wrong

I never harmed anyone

Why then, is it his right to slaughter us all here

Why have the gods granted him this choice

Why did he have to come back

Why do I have to die

Why….
