Author's Note: So, I wrote this for a friend of mine, who had a dream that she was a Star Ship Captain, and this was what she dreamed. I decided to write it down for her, and thus this little piece of writing was created. Meant to be crack, but turned into something halfway serious. I know the storyline of Kirk and Spock isn't the one in the show, but this is a AU'verse, so meh. ^_^ I'm Commander Ashe, by the way.
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek. However, I do happen to own Captain Tac, who is a friend of mine. ^_^
Captain Tac stood on the bridge of the USS Eternity, the latest Star Ship to be put on active duty. It was replacing the late USS Enterprise, that had been retired barely a year before.
Her cool eyes roamed the bridge, taking in all the sights. Her gaze lingered on each of the crew members working in their respectful positions, doing everything in their power to make sure that the Eternity made it out of orbit on time.
Her searching stopped as her eyes fell on a young woman with long brown hair and light green eyes standing next to the Captain's chair, her red shirt in contrast to Tac's own gold. The stripes on the woman's shoulder proved for her to be the Commander, and the logo on her left breast showed her to be in the standings of engineer. Her lips quirked upward slightly as she acknowledged the Captain's stare, and Tac returned it with a miniscule dip of her head.
The Captain's gaze then swept to the Science Station, where Lieutenant Spock was standing, his shoulders stiff, arms clasped firmly behind his back. After the unnatural death of the Star Ship Captain James T. Kirk, the Federation wanted for the half-Vulcan to return to the Academy and continue with his teaching. However, they were unable to turn down Tac's request for the man, especially when he was adamant about staying in the field. The Captain gave him a slight nod as well, before approaching her chair – the chair that symbolized everything that she had been working for her whole life.
Tac sat, and swiveled back and forth slightly, sinking into the comforts of the chair. She turned, and in a moment of unproffesionalism, shot a smug grin towards her Commander, who chuckled and smirked back. Out of the corner of her eye, Tac watched as Lieutenant Spock's eyebrow raised a little, and her grin refused to leave. The hum of the engine abruptly shot through the bridge, and Tac closed her eyes, savoring the moment. When she opened them, she was all business. She pressed the speaker button on her chair and cleared her voice.
"Attention, crew of the USS Eternity, this is your Captain, Tac, speaking. In a few moments, we will be leaving Earth's orbit, to embark on our maiden voyage. As many of you know, this is the final Star Ship that the Federation will be creating, so I believe that we must show them that she stands up to her namesake.
I may not be as experienced as other Star Ship Captain's, but I have the heart and passion – and leadership – as any one of the former men who have piloted a ship as great as this one. Along with my First Officer, Commander Ashe, the Eternity, and her crew, will go down in history."
Stepping down from her proverbial soap-box, Tac disconnected the channel and smiled a content smile, her body buzzing with the adventure and excitement to come. It would be nowhere near a smooth ride, and the challenges would be plenty. She would loose crew members and gain new ones. Make enemies and friends. Ruin and change lives. It would be one hell of a ride.
"Thrusters on full…"
Short. Sweet. Total randomness.
